Definitely agree TRD. I had a bit of a period back in May when I first put the 370 back on road...where the weather wasn't too bad and I used it a fair bit, but since then it has been terrible as you say.

It starts to make you wonder if a second car or weekend car is actually worth it in this country now I reckon!
Not going to lie, but the bit in bold is actually a part of the reason I am moving the Mazda on in a way in my case. It was great on a sunny day, but we hardly got any, and when we did I was often doing something else instead.

I don't know if you remember but when I got the boxster, it rained none stop afterwards and it quickly started letting the water in. That little episode, as well as some of the maintenance involved in looking after them when they live outside has put me off that sort of car for the time being.

Caterhams are so controllable they are just as much fun in the damp. Wouldn’t want to be out in one in the rain purely down to the roof situation, but damp is fine.

Yes and I've heard/read that as well. thumbup

I've got to get it out in the damp/wet at some stage though, because I've promised "911Spanker" on here that I'll do a donut in it! biggrin

It has been a long time since I've done a donut in a car in fairness though, and the last time I did one was in the S14a 200SX...and I sold that back in 2006! driving

Honestly mate, donuts are a piece of piss in a caterham. You should book a sprint day or even caterham experience day to have a play off road. You’ll appreciate just how pliable they are that you feel a driving god.

One of very few cars id happily provoke and play with the tail out on a public road. Just so perfectly balanced and the feedback tells you just what it will do next.

Appreciate your experience share for sure. smile

I do feel like I definitely need to get more out of the Caterham going forward as you say. thumbup

That's one thing I'll miss about the MX5 is doing donuts in it. There's a few laybys with gravel on them near where I live and I always used to do a few when I pass, great fun, and kicking up big dust clouds was always funny. hehe

The weather was kind at last today, so I got the opportunity to nip out in the Caterham. smile

I'm really missing the 370 now, and I can't wait to get it back on the road(more than likely the 1st of May).

The insurance renewal has just come through, and it isn't bad at all in comparison to M4, and that went up £200 to £900, and the GLE went up £300 to £1039 this year. Whereas the 370 has gone from £259 to £283 in comparison, so I can definitely live with that little uplift for sure.

Roll on the warmer weather. smile

I said something similar to that to my missus too, because oddly the insurance group on the 370 is actually higher than it is on the M4. That baffles me a bit really.

I've just taxed it ready for using it tomorrow(weather dependent) after 6 months on a SORN. The tax was £404 for 6 months! yikes

I've really missed it, so I'm excited and looking forward to getting in it again and listening to it again for sure. smile

Complete rip off when you think you're probably doing a few hundred miles a year in it. It's cases like these where I think a PAYG tax system would be much fairer.

Completely agree TRD. I've just had the annual "you need to get rid of it" talk from my missus! hehe

I still love the car loads, but she can't understand why I'd pay so much in tax for it though, especially when it hardly ever gets used as it is.

You need to apply some man maths to the situation by buying a newer 370 and only paying £99 for six months tax yes

I looked at 370's when they first came out and but the ridiculous road tax rates put me off, then the later ones dropped to £180pa and the dealers were knocking £10k off pre-registered Nismos so it would've been rude not to!

The way I handle this now is to buy a full year’s tax, and get the refund when I SORN after 6 months. Works out cheaper! Not by much, but every little helps smile

I have started paying monthly by DD. You pay a bit more but it spreads it out, and having 3 cars to tax it makes it simpler. This way I SORNed mine over winter for 5mth and will DD it for the next 7mth at £59 a month, which comes out at about £414 for the year which isn't too outrageous. This way it is trivial to start and stop without messing around waiting for refunds etc.

Hope the sun is out and you have a good drive it day!
