What can I say... I was desperate. £1450 later I got this as I needed something that was capable of doing 20K miles per year.

128K miles, previously owned by a lad so of course every panel is dented and scratched, the interior was absolutely filthy and it needs 4 x new tyres. You'd think the tyres were the most dangerous part of this shed but you'd be wrong... it's the risk of an epileptic seizure at the flashing 3 x rear light warning messages, the EML for a lambda sensor and the flashing light for a glow plug on the dashboard. It could also do with an oil service and the steering wheel is not straight.

I have been busy though... I went on National Tyres and have booked me in for 4 x Autogreen ditchfinders, front tracking, and an MOT on Friday for an initial £330.88. I did some searching and found some discount codes, 10% for the tyres and half price tracking, so that took it all to £277.43 which was even better. Don't stop reading, as because I went through a cashback website I got £7.32 back for nowt. So all that has cost me the grand total of £270.11

Whilst I was at it, they wanted £174.99 for an oil and filter service. So I've managed to get 5L of oil (eBay, Mannol) and a filter (CP4L) for £19.85 so will do that at the weekend. Glow plugs x 4 I got from CP4L for £49.21 so I'll ask them to fit them whilst it's in for an MOT, along with the lambda sensor. Ordered some cheapo floot mats from eBay too for £13.99. That's where the spending will stop, for now, as hopefully it will be good until the next MOT.

My recollection is that this was the previous generation Audi A4. How much Audi is there, especially on the inside, and how much SEAT stuff? I suspect the Audi stuff will be from the time when they majored on solidity.
That's the one (B7?). Everything is Audi apart from the steering wheel airbag logo and the cloth seat pattern

That'll do as a "town car" to compliment the new raging bull hehe I'd just check when the cambelt was last changed as it's the sort of thing that if they haven't looked after it could have been parked for another day/year/decade!!

I can't see you losing all your initial outlay on this one. Top shedding thumbup
Thanks! And yep, cambelt planned for Xmas time I think

It needs a ‘my other car is a Lamborghini’ sticker in the back! smile

I think they are good cars - we have a later seat (Ateca) and it is superb
My GF suggested that but I've kept the other car quiet from colleagues and only told a handful of people I've got it so a sticker is out of the question ha!

20k a year and you buy the cheapest tyres going, doesn't make sense really they will wear and most likely be crap in the rain.
I'm sure if it/I survives going through torrential downpours with bald tyres I'll be OK with a fresh set of Autogreens. I actually used to work for a Michelin subsiduary so I'm fairly au fait with tyre brands etc.

Or maybe he can afford a lambo because only spends money on what he needs, rather than what other people tell him he needs? scratchchin

Nice car OP - love the colour thumbup
This. The tyres I have chose match my requirements and my risk level is more than satisfied. There’ll be more updates on this shed than the other car, I’m sure.

Tried to fit the new glow plugs tonight but the socket I got was the wrong size, so I’ll have another go at the weekend.

The ditchfinders get fitted tomorrow so fingers crossed I don’t die instantaneously

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I understand. If we want to chat about tyres versus non-branded tyres please can we start a new thread in General Gassing and I'll join you on there, rather than clogging this thread up.

I had one of these a few years ago, it was a good tool and drove well even when I got rid at ~150k miles. I lamented the lack of Bluetooth for music but could at least make calls. I changed it for a Passat when we had kids.
Yeah the lack of Bluetooth is a minor annoyance, although I’ve been tempted to fit a £20 Android Bluetooth stereo but I’ll see how I get on with my £3.50 aux to iPhone cable which means at least I can listen to Spotify.

Oh and in other news the glow plugs are Bosch so I won’t die.

MOT and tyres done today, and I didn't die on the way home so that's positive. As was the fact I knocked the EML off whilst in the MOT place car park :P

Managed to get the right socket for the glow plugs to changed those tonight, 20 minute job. Absolute piece of piss.

The old ones looked a bit scorched. Never owned a diesel before so maybe someone can tell me if this is normal?

They couldn't do the tracking as it needs new track rod ends so I'll get that all done another time. Still considering one of those sheighty eBay bluetooth stereos for £20 but we'll see how we go.

ETA...

The OPs managed to afford a Lamborghini so I’m going to hazard a guess that his judgements about “economy” are fine.
This did raise a wry smile, thank you!

Perfectly normal glow plugs. Were they dead?
Was getting a flashing light when driving so I changed the lot. Looks like the ones I removed were the ones from the factory so all in all, not a bad innings for them.

I'm still alive, the Autogreens are actually a superb tyre for anyone considering them.

Because this car is getting FA spent on it, I needed a rear wiper motor. £65 for a new one, £35 for a used one or be a Frankenstein and make my own from a MK1 Leon.

Before the operation

The operation itself

And the result, with a full sweep of the rear window

Total cost including the new arm and blade was £20. This is one of the reasons I can afford to run a Lambo. I also still shop at Lidl and will buy Autogreen tyres for my shed for forever more.

Pull the front wings off and hack out the foam blocks that soak up water and rust the wings from the inside out. You can see the one on the driver's side is already having that effect.

Then duct tape the edges of the rusted out sections of arch to ready it for the next MOT.
Aye both sides literally have holes in, but it passed an MOT fairly recently with them so I'll just leave them. Anyone with a VAG car of that era knows only too well about those bd foam blocks and the problems they cause!

Nice work. I just got rid of mine as spares repairs after 10 years happy motoring. Steering rack went, couldn't get a gen item which is all my specialist would fit as couldn't have the rack out-off for refurb-refit taking up ramp space. Waited for 3 months on a rack off road so called it a day. Also parts were getting hard to find - wings, bumper, lights all obsolete but if you're running it as a shed it doesn't really matter.
Yeah hopefully it's got three years left in it, that's how long I anticipate keeping it. If it hasn't turned into a pile of rust by then!

Yeah I've seen a few 2.0 petrol engined ones when I've been searching for parts, and I didn't know they did one up until then. I had the same engine ina few mk5 Golf GTIs I've had over the years - good engines

The POS needed a DPF so found one from Germany, got it delivered last month. Finally got an appointment at the garage to fit and they say it’s too small. Opened a claim on eBay, only for it to rejected. So I’m £350 deep with a DPF that I’ve no idea what it fits. Opened a claim with PayPal so we’ll see.

Don’t tell anyone but I got the DPF hollowed and remapped for £500 - I don’t have any lights on the dash now which is a positive!

I think it’s cos of the time elapsed between order/delivery and now. We’ll see what happens anyway

Not sure on the interior comment though?

Ahhh I didn't know that about the dash - I'd assumed they were just all the same in the A4. Every day is a school day, thank you.

Fitted a new bulb, bit of a task but 5 minutes and it was in:

And any ideas what this is/means?

Front alloy is away being refurbished as the inner rim is allowing for a slow puncture, so I'm stuck with the spare for the time being. Adds to the patina, don't you think?

Just ticked over 135K, seven of which was by me on the Autogreens and I'm so lucky to be alive.

I spend a lot more time and effort keeping the inside clean versus the outside, that's for sure

What's yours like on fuel? I'm getting 60mpg on a run from the 2.0CR TDI.
Averaging 51mpg which is over 375 miles a week, so not bad at all really

Hi Drew. I've not, I've not even heard about it (granted, I've not done much research on this engine). What is it I'm looking out for?

ETA - just done a bit of research there and I think I'll just take my chances
