I've seen this at that garage a lot, it's just along from my work. For what it's worth I've used them for a few things due to convenience (including XKR MOT next Friday...) and I've had no complaints.Good job it’s in Montrose rather than Mansfield (for eg) or I might be tempted to have a look!

Sure, if it was five years old versus 10 years old or 15 years old, the former would be better.
But at this point with all 987s over 10 years old, I would assume the higher mile car with more exposure to the elements would be marginally more likely to have seized coffin arm bolts etc But broadly, isn't it luck of the draw unless you have a really clear idea of how a car has been used and stored over its whole life?

About 10 years ago I bought a 996 3.4 for £7k yes £7k and absolutely loved it, basically rebuilt everything except the engine myself and maintained it for a total of £7k over 7 years, then sold it as a sorted 996 and got most of my outlay back.
I regret selling it but needs must, it was my only car at the time, I needed to carry babies and had no space to keep it. I dearly missed the sublime steering of the 996 and the glorious cable throttle M96.
Anyway I just got my hands on this for an unbelievable amount of money considering the wheels it is wearing are worth at least 1/3 of the price paid. The PO had gone over the car mechanically and it drives spot on. However he also attempted to repaint much of it which was not so successful (lacquer peel now orange peel). So I need to break out the 2000 grit and the farecla and hopefully make it presentable at least. The savannah is also absolutely filthy.
It had the same 18" BBS Sport Classic II on my 996 and I think they are the best looking wheel on a 9x6. However they are nightmare to clean and the ride is much better on 17s. So they will be the first to go sadly and will recoup much of the purchase price.
It's a 2.5 manual with 96k miles.
The best bit, insurance as a second car zero no claims quoted £146, I went via quidco and will get £45 + £25 bonus cashback.

I think my classic policy is over 400 for my 2001 986 3.2S.
Good luck with the wheels. Some of those offered by sellers are way over priced. I tried selling a set of 18 inch twists for the 986 and couldn't get any takers. If anyone here is interested then let me know.
My car is now wearing 17 but I have been trying to squeeze 16 on the rear but the car won't have it. You should be able to use 16 on yours no problem. I was on the look out for some 16 realistically priced and eventually got a set for 30 quid in really bad condition. I only want the rears so if you want the fronts you can have them for free. Let me know. I was going to take them to the tip but I don't think I did as it just seemed wrong doing so.

I've already dealt with the wheels, a set of the lightest OE 17s http://www.944racing.de/wheelweights.php with brand new Hankooks all round for £400.
I would have had those 16s off you but I fear I'm far too far away. Can you not go weigh them in at a scrap metal merchants for some beer money?
