Indeed it does void the warrenty , unless they do a oil sample check/ test there non the wiser.
I would have thought they'd do a test before anything significant, never mind changing a whole engine. VW oil has a chemical marker in it.

The 1.4TSI is not a diesel engine though...

Also, it's a pretty easy check to do, and if it'd get VW out of putting in a new engine it'd be the first check they'd do.

An update on my car;

Brought it to Skoda today, it was a quarter litre down (1000 miles in and with a litre put in by me). They've drained it and brimmed it with fresh oil. I've to bring it back in 300km to get the oil remeasured. If Skoda say it's OK apparently I have to pay for the full engine of new oil, which I'm not too impressed with. Will keep y'all updated.

I know what I'd do if it was marginal.

I agree...
Here unfortunately I heard from some guys that they seal the plug and the dip stick to avoid "modification"...

I showed this pic round the office at work and no one had ever seen anything like it in a production engine, one quote was along the lines of 'seen a prototype or two like that, but only when something had gone really wrong'. If that level of dirt was on an engine after 3000km or so, what're the cat/turbo going to be like 5000miles later?

I completely agree...! And this one was the engine that replaced the first one faulty... mad
This pic was "stolen" by the user in a Seat work shop in Italy after that the engine was disassembled by them...

VW need to find quickly a solution and then recall all the 1.4TSI sold...!!!

"6 ltrs of oil in 6000 miles is perfectly normal, thats VWs official line, if you have a problem take it up with them"

Have you got that in writing???
If do I would be sending copies of the official letter to every motoring mag/ online forum & anyone else who will listen as that's just ridiculous.

If the dipstick is sealed what stops them from overfilling to hide the fault??

Yes, it's a risk, if happened to me I'd ask to be present at the moment of the sealing...

Unbelivable...!!!

In European use and maintenance book the limit is settled in 1liter every 2.000Km, how is in miles??
I don't think that's so much different... If this limit is passed they cannot refrein to intervene...!

The only way to provent this is to de-glaze the bores with a good ball hone new rings and use a really cheap multigrade 10/40 oil cheeper the better , then spank it for 500 miles then go to 10/40 semi im pretty sure this would cure the problem.

I was told yesterday at my local Skoda dealership it was 0.5 litres/1000km, which would equate to 0.8litres/1000 miles. Which is 20% lower than what you were told. If you want to take it up with VW UK I'll join in. Should have the results of my consumption test in about a week at current mileage.

Are you saying that in your use and maintenance book there is not written an oil consumption limit?

If it's written and the consumption they tested on your car is major than that, they cannot refrein to fix the problem...!

Ok, so if the oil consumption is higher that what it's written, they must intervene...

Just a quick note , our student for the year has a 2002 beetle 2ltr just like mine except hers has done 44k mines on 97k. Hers uses oil at a rate of 1-2 ltrs every 4-600 miles were mine uses half a ltr every month 600-900. Again both cars no leaks no smoke drives great.

Just thought id share that , my take is from new fully synthetic oil and pampered for the running in period = glazed bores.

Im going to flush the oil out at the weekend and go over to a minerial based oil of 10/40 grade and see what happends.
