The vxr8 mpg challenge
Discussion
After my stellar 80+ Litre fill effort, I thought Id start a new challenge.
For those with a minimum of 4000 miles on their trip computer.
Try and beat 27.1 MPG
Ill post the pics tomorrow. Last checked today 7455 odd miles for 275 gallons.
Pathetic FI efforts welcomed. May the most fuel efficient win
Please state Manual or Auto.

Behold 27.4 MPG from 500rwhp NA.
Im going to make a bolt statement that no VXR8 with FI will come close and that, NA therefore wins on all counts.
Reliability, consistent power output, economy, cost of ownership etc.
Nay sayers step up to the plate and show your superior numbers.

Stop angling for a bite Rich Im going to make a bolt statement that no VXR8 with FI will come close and that, NA therefore wins on all counts.

they're wise to you now
Everybody knows a good fi set-up is more efficient.

Congrats btw

Cant compete only done 300 miles and best I have got is 19.8Im going to make a bolt statement that no VXR8 with FI will come close and that, NA therefore wins on all counts.

see what its like on trip to Newcastle next weekI was wondering if someone would spot that FM station
And for the other gent above, no I dont know FI is more fuel efficient, in fact I think the opposite is true.
Go and google BSFC for NA vs FI you will find NA is up to 50% more fuel efficient at generating BHP.
So quite how FI is more efficient is beyond me. This is my project to prove Im right.
If its so efficient then there should be no problem showing massive efficiency gains in FI over the numbers above.
So bring them on. Where are these more efficient cars?
FI can be more efficient IF the engine is downsized to offset the massive inefficiencies. I see no downsizing...
FI only gains from Volumentric efficiency, it fails with mechanical efficiency and thermal efficiency to beat NA.
I have put my money where my mouth is, so come ye one, come ye all. Show us your superior vehicles... Where are they!?

For what they are the R8 is pretty fuel efficient, 70mph is barely 2000 rpm.
I regularly get 27mpg on my daily commute, but as I'm also running on LPG I take about 20% off of that and then calculate about 22mpg @ 69.9ppl which for me equates to around 37mpg on cost.
My old 300C was just as efficient and would also quite happily return about 27mpg.
I was lucky to get mid 20's out of any previous Land Rover Discoverys I owned and they were diesel, so much or gas guzzling V8's!

One or the other, happy to post pics up if required. Though it looks like the challenge has been won by NA anyway.
Closest is a 19 Mpg. Maybe people need to scroll through their cars so we will give it a day or 3 for everyone to check and report back if they come close.
Run to London recently averaged 23mpg here Closest is a 19 Mpg. Maybe people need to scroll through their cars so we will give it a day or 3 for everyone to check and report back if they come close.
Even in 30* heat and supposed inefficiency. Only a few mpg off your wonderful acheivement. But then maybe its the lower drag coefficient and feather light weight of the Monaro...
