Agree with all of that. And am drumming my fingers thinking 'hmm, one of 100'. I like the sound of that...
God no, it would be a crime to modify one of only 100 cars!!I'd add BR manifolds and cats to it, that'd be it I would imagine (at least while it's in warranty ). I'm considering making some enquiries here...
I guess my concern with the news that they are only going to produce 100 (if it is true) is how that will impact on pricing. In my mind it was always going to cost around £150k before extras but if they are only producing 100 how much of a premium are they going to add to that?
If they add too much then the pricing will be similar to the 'new DBS' and I might as well wait for 2014? The good news would be that it should hold it's value well if they stick to 100 - what guarantee of that? and it would definitely be a keeper.
I'm up at the factory on 31/5 for a preview of Project 310 so now have a few more questions to ask You never know if it is officially announced before then I might get a sneak view of the V12VR as well or perhaps not

I have a feeling you would do that to a One-77 or a DB4 GT Zagato if the opportunity arose. I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry

Agree with all that but they are quite different cars, particularly my favourite topic - gearbox ! However the typical merc buyer may not even test drive them and just assume they are similar cars to drive. In fact the typical SL driver probably wouldn't like an SLS (to drive that is)
Yeah I'll go with that. The SL is much more comfortable than the SLS (or at least the R230 55AMG and my old R230 350 was). What gearbox is in the new SL65? It is the 7G Tronic one, or the 7 speed MCT gearbox? The SL65AMG uses 7G. I think a handful of 'xxx63AMG' models are the only ones to use MCT whilst SLS is the only Merc I am aware of that uses dual clutch semi auto

That's basically my thoughts, pos with new exhaust box (not sure if you mean to include that or not from the description above)Providing price & production numbers are as indicated to me, I'm in

Can't see them selling many at more than £150k and if they make more than 100, the official price will be like most other Aston list prices - meaningless ! :-) If they add too much then the pricing will be similar to the 'new DBS' and I might as well wait for 2014? VH310 Volante & V12VR will surely be very different cars ? A manual version of current DBS is of course comparable to V12VR but with TT only in VH310, I don't see it - not better or worse, just very different
I would imagine that not only will VH310 Volante be quite a bit more expensive than V12VR (perhaps 50% more ?), but as you say, with those numbers, V12VR should hold it's value pretty well whereas VH310 will one assumes, be like almost any other Aston - however cheap you buy it, they drop in value like a stone !

Do people think there'll only be a £15k basic price increase over the V12V coupe for a 100 production run Roadster!!!! LOL
IF.....there's only going to be 100 then prices will be at least £160k but IMO nearer £175k.
OR.....£150k for a production run of no less than 500 cars.
I think your pricing is going to be closer Mako. If they only build 100 then I think they believe they will be able to charge the extra time will tell!IF.....there's only going to be 100 then prices will be at least £160k but IMO nearer £175k.

If they do such a small production run then presumably the costs of type approval will be increased - or will they be able to rely on the work they did for the V12V?
There is nothing about V12VR that stacks up. They have made a drop top version of pretty much every model in their history and correct me if I'm wrong, but with the exception of Vanquish, IIRC they have made a soft top version of every single 2 door model from DB7 onwards, including all the special editions like N420, DBS Carbon, etc
Of course with Vanquish, they would have had to tool up specially for a drop top because it wasn't based on an existing shape in the way that V12V is (and yes I know there was a one off Vanquish soft top!) which is why building a V12VR would appear such an easy thing to do.
So why has it been on & off for so long ? Why even the doubt over whether it would happen (which the factory patently did have) ? Why produce it in such limited numbers ? Why all the secrecy ? I simply don't get it and I give no credence to any bo****x that it doesn't fit in with the ethos of the V12V's concept as a focussed track/driver's car, because if they know it will sell, they will normally build it, after all they 'made' Cygnet ! Well of course actually Cygnet was a mistake but hopefully you get the point - I don't blame any commerical company for building what it knows will sell. It stacks up commercially so again, I don't get why the factory have prevaricated over this for so long.
In turn it therefore doesn't totally surprise me that I don't understand the indicated pricing/production numbers either. Whilst I made comments in a similar vein to Mako's as long ago as December http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f... , namely that they won't/can't produce so few for so little, the information coming from the factory is very clear that it will be 100 @ £150k. I hope it's true but I've been stung before so I'm trying (and mostly failing) not to get excited about this

Exciting news indeed, but I too am left bait baffled.
Assuming that my 2011 v8 Roadster with v low mileage is worth high £60s/ low70s, then i would be looking at paying circa £80k for an extra 90 odd hp, some carbon brakes and some vents....
That works out at around £800 per additional pony!
I would think that BR or similar could easily outperform that?
PS don't get me wrong, if money was irrelevant I would put my name down!
PPS is the 100 cars for the Uk or worldwide???

You're comparing new with used there. Compare a new V8VR to a new V12VR and the difference won't be as much as you think.Assuming that my 2011 v8 Roadster with v low mileage is worth high £60s/ low70s, then i would be looking at paying circa £80k for an extra 90 odd hp, some carbon brakes and some vents....

B. You've assumed a certain amount of rational reasoning to a car purchase...........which is just plain silly

A True, but that is how much it would potentially cost me to upgrade a car that is just ove a yer old and was purchased new. B. You've assumed a certain amount of rational reasoning to a car purchase...........which is just plain silly
B that is a fair cop

If they really only make 100 roadsters then £150k is not so bad, at that volume and with such high demand they'll hold on to most of that.
Lots of big 'if's though! Also if it's only 100 it might well be north of £150k.
Youre not going to fall for that old chestnut again are you?Lots of big 'if's though! Also if it's only 100 it might well be north of £150k.

They were never going to make a V12V either, if you recall.
