Why don't I like Japanese car styling?

It's purely personal preference, most people here don't like this Crown, however I find the "overstyled" nature really interesting coupled with it being properly Japanese I love it. Something different and interesting.
But then the 3 series competitor from the same year to me looks tragically dull, there's just nothing there and now BMW's are not in any way "ultimate" just further makes me fall asleep I mean what's interesting about it? Different lights and badge and it's any other Euro saloon.
Why as the Toyota Crown got the front of two different cars on one car? Show us some designs that you like.
Don't feed the troll, he's like the other guy I mentioned in one of my previous posts. And why is there any connection to trolling in highlighting the distinct differences between the flavours of Japanese car design and European car design?
1. there are differences
2. it's okay to point that out
3. it's okay to prefer one to the other
I guess it's a bit weird to completely disregard a whole nation covering multiple manufacturers. There are some awful looking cars out there but not sure I'd put it to one region.
I agree with the BMW comment, especially having lived in and around London most my life. BMW's in general are either super common and dull looking or just hideous (see;iX). That's not to say there aren't bad Japanese either (Toyota CHR, Nissan Juke spring to mind) but I quite like the Corolla tbh.
All subjective ain't it?

You're not highlighting it, you're just belligerently telling us what you think is wrong with Japanese cars that are being posted. Your thread title is asking "why" you don't like them. Someone has already asked you to post a car or cars you think are good looking from Europe (or anywhere except Japan) and maybe it'll help with the why. If you don't want to do that and just keep going "that's ugly/wrong/awful", then troll...And why is there any connection to trolling in highlighting the distinct differences between the flavours of Japanese car design and European car design?

I get the impression from the raging heat radiating out of your comments that I'm never going to make an argument you wouldn't strain every sinew to disprove. I acknowledge the fact that you're challenging me but I'm going to politely decline as I just can't be ar5ed having a debate like that with a mega fan. In the end you'll resort to personally attacking me and the whole thing will be a massive waste of time.
I don't really understand the point of this thread?
Yes Japanese car manufacturers seem to have very distinctive styles. But then that can be said for many regions. There are always examples of absolutely horrendous styling no matter what manufacturer or part of the world you scrutinise. For example, Italians don't always get it right.....insert Fiat Multipla here. I personally don't like the more recent BMW styling decisions.
So if you don't like Japanese styling then it is down to your personal taste. Like many people don't like marmite or black pudding.
Everyone is different.

Presumably the 'AE86' part of your username has significance in the context of a discussion about the pros and cons of Japanese car design?

Sadly for you I can appreciate beauty of cars from many origin's which is why I was asking for your choices. Any "raging heat" in my comments that you are perceiving stems not from your preference of design choice but because you clearly you don't want to engage in the topic you started for the very question you're asking. I think you should take your own advice and unsubscribe from your own thread. Be an even more boring world of cars if it wasn't for the Japanese.
I quite like the Corolla, especially in estate form cos require practicle in cars, i also liked Avensis in estate form, thought Lexus 460 was one of the most quietly handsome cars ever made, but can't abide the grill treatment of Lexus models since though compared to the gopping front ends of recent BMW and Audi barges the Lexus fronts are really quite reasonable.
Each to their own.

I have a current Mazda3 and I’m considering getting another.
Having looked at the current Golf mk8 , Leon mk4 and Focus which I find disappointing compared to their predecessors and other rivals such as the eyesore that is the current 1 series,I have decided it’s simply the best looking hatch in its class.
I think the current Corolla in hatch form looks OK too.
Still not sure about the Civic which has gone from being distinctive to a bit bland in its current form.

I've often thought that because we're European thats what the magazines n press want you to buy, its a biased opinion as always. Just because the dashboard isn't soft doesn't make a bad car..I've had many cars in my 50+ years & apart from my mk1 astra 1.3 4door( which a cvh 1.6 couldn't match) I'd probs buy a pug or citroen nowadays as least its got a bit of something about it. Just scraped a 15yr old swift sport ive had for 6yrs as all running costs now 2x what I paid for it...(& yes the dash was scratchy) but a A road blast was a hoot

Do you mean now or in the past? The Japanese have made some beautiful cars. Sure, they've made some munters, but name a country that hasn't. Has been asked before not answered so I'm asking again, what cars do you consider look good.
I like this car: https://themarket.bonhams.com/us/listings/bmw/635c...I think the styling discussion goes beyond cars itself, the Japanese (or as a whole ... the Far East) never really understood nor cared for creating aspirational goods and lifestyles.
Kerb appeal and projection of success is important in Europe, that reflects greatly on the number of European luxury car makers vs ... Lexus (Which the latter was purely created for more market share in the USA)
If we remove the premium / luxury brands and compare the typical Japanese saloon/hatchback to the offerings from Ford, Vauxhall, Fiat and the working man French marques, the gap on design evolution and perception of kerb appeal is significantlly diminished to warrant any serious debate.

I'm the same with German cars. I always wonder to myself why they've never moved on from the three box shape. People jizz over the BMW E36, but to me it has no styling. It's literally just a series of rectangles.
My observation back in early & mid 1990's as a young teen was the E36 was a huge step up to the E30, the car had more presence and appeared very modern (at the time). You are probably viewing the E36 as they are now, which on some level has not aged so well.

Lexus are not Japan's top luxury cars. They're not even Toyota's. Japan keeps the best stuff for itself. Gotta agree, the old 635 CSL was a beautiful car. What about Nissan's 240z?Gassing Station | Japanese Chat | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
