ok so my one year with the m5 is almost here. and the warranty details have just come

with the £250 excess its £120 a month for my car with just under 75,000 miles on the clock,

its a 08 car ,

looking at the details of the cover the main things that concerns we are

1, my low annual mileage, 6000

2, wear and tear ,will they say, its at its end of life ,its supposed to wear at this mileage alot

what your experience with named component cover and high mileage ,or sholud i go to warranty direct and get their all signing cover every polices for £600

If rumour is to be given credence, the WD cover is less all-singing and more knows only the tune to twinkle, twinkle little star and even then it is tone deaf. I have no actual experience. I would ask the question to the insurer - they may have an indicative list of mileages at which components are not - or less likely - to be covered? If they don't, how do they assess each claim? Do they forensically inspect a failed component?

Wear and tear items post 60k miles will be open to wriggle room

Ie Suspension Components etc

You maybe better of saving your money and just going for Drivetrain option (depending on premium difference)

Warranty Direct covers wear and tear, the replaced control arms and all sorts on my M3.

Everytime I hear someone moan about them is normally something totally unreasonable.

I'd just get driveline with an excess figure. Keep it as cheap as possible and also have a small pot for repairs on wear and tear items. That way anything major with the engine and suspension is covered, which is usually the main worry for most people.

I've got named component with a high excess.

It costs about £40 a month. Was only a few quid more than driveline but includes all electronic control modules which do go wrong. Also mine being a 6 cylinder if my abs pump goes (fairly common) it's a £1700 bill which is covered.

Daft stuff like wheel bearings, bushes, springs are a cheap DIY fix.
