Who would have thought it? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/92017...I mean, apart from everyone. My old man said "Follow the van, And don't dilly dally on the way". Off went the van wiv me 'ome packed in it, I followed on wiv me old cock linnet. But I dillied and dallied, dallied and I dillied Lost me way and don't know where to roam. Well you can't trust a PCSO like the old time coppers When you can't find your way 'ome. It is, apparently, not so much the shape of things to come but the shape of things. What is rather irritting is Blunkett's protestations that PCSOs were never meant to replace warrant holders when we all know they were.

Cameron's complete contempt for the Police along with 20% cuts means more of this to come. G4s are already building Police stations (and will be running them). It's only going to get worse.

It's not a central government initiative though is it? So blaming Cameron (Much as I am no fan) doesn't really wash IMO. And as police chiefs are to become elected, someone can stand on a ticket opposing this, and get in easily, if it's unpopular (which I expect it will be).

It's happening because Cameron has butchered Police budgets, along with the ulterior motive of privatising large parts of Policing.

SMT bod, "There will never be a two tier police force"

With more and more time being spent on paperwork and updating incidents, and, now probably having to spend time in the gym getting fit in case they get sacked for failing fitness tests, what time have they got to go out anyway?

Suggest people get to read “Wasting more Police Time” by “PC David Copperfield”
Just the foreward shows up the glaring differences found with the Police setup in the UK compared with the RCMP i.e. paperwork/fitness levels/Hands on approach from senior officers etc.

I must be the only one that thinks this is a good idea... unless I've misunderstood what "beat officer" means. My take on this is that the PCSO's provide the "visible, reassuring" policing in town centres and alike, and the proper bib are in cars (like "z cars" as I heard Blunket describe it) ready to deploy to response incidents as normal. On the face of it, that seems like a good idea to me. A bib on foot is pretty useless unless the incident is within a few hundred meters (ahem.. depending on fitness ).

Why can't the POs go do the patrolling job, and the PCSOs stay in the office doing the paperwork? That works for me.....far more sensible!

This has been on the cards for years, and is practically already happening in some areas.
It won't be long before you will be arrested by a PCSO, interviewed and charged by an MCSO, a decision will be made by CPS over the phone, you will be detained by Group 4 or Reliance, and taken to court without ever seeing a Police Officer.
Oh and if really unlucky you will be banged up in a prison run by a private company!
I bet Cameron has wet dreams at night just considering this.

A worrying aspect.
I notice from a lot of these stories of people being stopped and questioned about taking photographs in public places seem to involve PCSO’s. With the resultant arguments etc that ensue stemming from the fact that they DO NOT know the law.
I can only see this type of confrontation escalating.

How is that going to work then? Realise you don't have the answer just a comment really. Old story if someone is doing it for profit they'll be more efficient, usual hollyhocks. I despair frankly. By the way, are you lot still on a restricted patrol mileage in order to reduce costs? Every time I've called in Hopwood Park M42 or Beaconsfield M40 lately there have been a couple of units just sitting there.

From an operational standpoint it seems daft to have proper bib restricted to one location on foot, so if they can reassure the public (the ones who don't know their lack of effectiveness...) with cheaper pcso's then fair enuf?

Intent and motive are very important considerations in police work are they not? When it comes to butchered police budgets, which of the following do you think are most likely Cameron's intent and motive: A)He hates the police. B)We're broke.
