Evening all, So coming back from Goodwood the other week. On the A3 Northbound i did not see the speed change from 70mph to 50mph. I did however notice at the next sign and reduce my speed accordingly but i guess this was too late. I was with a convoy of car's and yet I'm the one who got caught lol. Strange as we were all together on the way back to london. Now i have received my NIP letter and have sent it back so waiting to hear from the old bill, but i was just wondering if anyone knows if i can take a speed awareness course instead of points (think it will be 6) in this situation? My licence is clean but just don't want points if I'm honest. If i can't then not much i can do, but if anyone has had a similar experience and can enlighten me as to what i can do id really appreciate it. Thanks for reading.

For 82 in a 50 your're way over the threshhold for speed awareness courses of 10% +9 (64mph in a 50 to save you doing the maths)
In fact you're in the "Use public transport for the next few weeks" territory.

You want to avoid points? You'll be lucky to avoid a ban! I know the bit of A3 you mean, it's easy to find yourself over the limit but irrespective of that you'll be up before the beak with this one!

I got done for 76 in a 50 on a duel carridgeway and I got 3 points and a £60 fine but this was dealt with at the side of the road, so good luck

A pal at work got caught the other was 50 into the 70 on the Esher bound carriageway. They nicked him at 87 in the 70, he's just got a letter inviting him to a course in Reigate.

They say they have video evidence so I'm thinking it was the avg speed check cameras. When I hear back will update. I hope I can just get away with 6 points and a fine. All this talk of a ban is worrying tho... Was not familiar with the road and didn't see the limit change (had a 4.0 RS behind me and was completely distracted lol) will happily accept the points, everything I have read points to 6 and a fine but was hoping that I may be able to do a speed awareness course instead. I will accept my fate no matter what but a ban would suck as just added some extras to the car that I was hoping to enjoy

RH Yes I was over the 70mph limit but not by much, was going with speed of traffic. I know at the end of the day speeding is speeding, the reason for this thread is because I know that some ppl have got of with doing a speed awareness course instead of receiving points. As I'm not 100% on when this can be done was just trying to see what my options are. If any. I have no problem getting the points or a ban but like most would prefer an alternative. I live to drive, so a ban would suck but at the end of the day, you do the crime, u do the time.

My worst speeding offence was 89.4 MPH on a 30 limit. It was a dual carriageway There were extenuating circumstances. I employed a good solicitor and appeared suitably contrite. Which I was. I was fined £180 and got three points.
So all is not lost. But I would not treat this lightly. Get good representation, treat you offence seriously. You may stay on the road. Good Luck.

However you've already told us that the speed limit was 50mph and 82mph is a substantial amount over that. If I were you I'd expect a minimum of three points and a fine, unfortunately for you I suspect you might be looking a short ban. My last speeding points were over ten years ago. I got 3 points for 91mph on a motorway and another 3 points for 52mph in a 40mph zone.

Being "Human" is no excuse, it's a digital driven world now, where computers rule, at least on our roads. Vote UKIP, contact your MP, voice your displeasure about the roads policing nonsense we see.
