The TFL website says to apply using the existing Reg and when approved, which it has been, take the plate off, in my case onto retention and then scrap the car.The car would then have its original plate on.

The scrap yard will only issue a COD with the then current plate on which of course won’t match the TFL’s records so they won’t pay out.
When you take the plate off using the online method, the DVLA record is updated immediately. Do this and send a copy of the confirmation to TFL. I would hope this is enough to sort it out.

Thank you for replies.

I am amazed to say that I have had a reply from TFL this morning, only sent question about 4pm yesterday.

They are not worried about the plate number on the COD, only that the VIN number on it is the same as on the application. At least I have that in writing.

My wife always says I overthink these things.

Scrapped our Smax today. A good car gone to waste.

The application process with TFL was painless online.

I used EMR for disposal, booking it online over the Xmas period.
They confirmed collection yesterday, picked it up at 08:00 this morning, sent me the certificate of destruction by 09:00 & the £250 from them was in my bank account by 10:00.

C od D uploaded to TFL & now the wait for my £2K cheque - how very 20th century, I'll have to go to the bank for the first time in years (my account has a max £1K cheque deposit limit online).
Reviving this thread. What documents did you hand over to the scrapper? Signed V5C? Which bit? What do you need to retain to inform DVLA ?

When I did mine back in September the scrap dealer takes a copy of your id and the V5C and gives you the tear off slip saying it's been scrapped.

I got the COD e mailed through within 48hrs. I made a point of pulling off the reg plates and throwing them in the car to avoid any ULEZ fines!
