Yes, I am sure. If you read 'Under the Hood - Part 4' the creative director. Dan Greenaway has this to say:
Recreating a circuit from the real world (such as the Top Gear Test Track) or creating one from scratch (as in the case of our “crown jewel” track, the Bernese Alps) takes more than a year from start to finish. From travelling to the track to gather source material (a typical track sourcing takes three full days, weather cooperating, and multiple track artists on hand to gather data), to the detailed process of translating the data from a sourcing trip into the game, as well as the long months of polishing that we put into every track to make sure it meets our internal standards, there’s so much work to do.
So The Bernese alps track(s) are sampled from real world locations but are not intended to replicate actual stretches of road. They're built for the game, to be as much fun as possible I'd imagine.

Not that much! The one thing I've found with Alpine Passes is that they're not as much fun to drive as they look like they should be. If Turn 10 have taken the time to make an authentic looking but fun to drive/race Alpine Pass ,than that's just fine by me. I suppose it's like the old film disclaimer: "This track is based on a real road" It looks stunning though.

I think you're spot on there, it looks like it will be incredible but in reality it probably won't be! You never have time to look at the scenery on tracks anyway.

That is not the bernese alps track, its not going to be a driveable section of road in forza 4. It's simply a photo location. The subject was discussed several weeks ago on FM.net. I'm not trying to be a killjoy, I just dont want everybody to be disapionted when they found out you cant drive that road.

Sorry blade, the thread on fm.net went the same way, a fair few members getting very excited about it, including myself, before being told it was just a photo location like the topgear studio.

Ah right! I got confuzzled. Alpine scene =/alpine track in game.
That's why I wanted to know from the off: are these images generated on-the-fly or in a 'static' photo mode? It appears Forza 4 has a proper photo mode in which the images are processed in much greater depth then they will be in-game. I just can't see the Xbox having the muscle to push that level of detail at 30fps or whatever, and as such they're not really representative of what the game engine can do. If you get my drift?
I.e. if we let the graphics engine have a few seconds processing time, and use the models we built to their finest depth, we can generate a super HD image of this quality.... But not at 30fps in game with 11 other cars on track...

There is an option in photo mode to save a picture as a big image, something silly high res like 3000x2000 pixels. It's called big shot or something.
