ha! brings back memories.... in the early 1970s we all used to have these in our shoes (Royals, plains or loafers) but I think people with wood flooring would not be happy if I used them today!

Hi - posted this in response to a posting in another room. Anyone wear them? Let me know if you want any done

Ozzy asked if metal segs in shoes work. I'm a cobbler and they certainly work very well. Segs are metal studs you can have put anywhere on the heel or sole and are an excellent way of solving that problem. My advice is that if you have segs put in your shoes they will make your shoes last for ages and looking great. Sound pretty cool too.

Segs are perfect for new shoes because they stop trouble before it starts and because they are made in different shapes and sizes will fit to any part of the shoe - sole or heel. Some gents like them banged straight into new shoes before first wearing and some like to wait until heels worn. Either way they'll be grand. Some guys also have them just for 'the noise'.

If anyone wants segs put in I am one of the few cobblers to stock the full range and also have a full collection and delivery service for home/office. Send me a messge email if you want some segs put in for you gents.

Surely quarter irons, and yes I do and yes my shoe man "Ken Jedi Shoe Wizard" fits them to all my heels.

Painful though, must get him to fit them to my brogues in future.

Hi, have just stumbled across your forum, a bit late! I'm the General Manager of Pennine Castings (formaly known as Blakeys), we have been making Segs/Blakeys here since 1902. Its great to hear you stock all our range. We are about to set up a dedicated website for Segs, I would be really interested in your thoughts. Best regards SS

Interesting that you're a specialist. Picking up some re-soled shoes tomorrow on Bond St. - are you in Mayfair?

Brings back memories from the 70's also. Used to fix at least three of the larger ones to my loafers and spent many a happy hour on Guildford High St , sparking!

For sappersteve....How is business bearing in mind the amount of 'trainers' out there?

londoncentral2 - I'm looking to get some Blakeys fitted on to a new pair of shoes. Where abouts in London are you.

Some advice would probably be required i.e. Do you fit them front & back of the shoe? Cost etc?

If possible to reply to my personal e-mail address then that would be appreciated. andywood79@hotmail.com

Hi, interesting post.
Can you fit quarter irons to new shoes? I've got a pair of Grenson Archie brogues, heavy bad boys with triple sole and heel. The heel has a rubber quarter and they just don't sound right and I want that drill sergeant click, so can I replace the rubber with metal? Not keen on blakeys since they raise the heel a little and would prefer quarter irons.

Bloody hell those look excellent. Where's the best place to pick up a set? I'm based in London.

Bit of a thread resurrection here.

I wanted to get some good shoe repairs done, so after a search on here I contacted Graeme (LondonCentral2) via PM and he has since carried out some really good repairs for me. He's reheeled a pair with a metal insert in the corner to reduce wear, and added Blakeys to the toe section of another pair. He collects and returns too, and he's picking up another pair next week. Highly Recommended.

what kind of cost are these?

I usually buy cheap £100 shoes and wear them till the die before replacing with the exact same pair.

if repairing was a reasonable cost I would buy more expensive ones. I just wear them 5 days a week and the rain kills leather soles
