Hello, I’ve booked a track day at Oulton Park in April. I’m based in Brighton and since it’s a fair long way to travel and I’ve never driven in Wales before, I would like to incorporate this with extra days for some spirited driving in North/South Wales and also a visit to EVO triangle. My plan is: Day 1 – Brighton to Middlewich (B&B / Travelodge) Day 2 - Oulton Park track day Day 3 – Evo triangle in early morning, then from North Wales to South Wales Day 4 - more driving in South Wales (Brecon Beacons?) in the morning until noon (?) then back to Brighton Any recommendations on where (which town/village/B&B) to stay on day 2 and day 3? Also any recommendations on good roads / tourist attractions / towns / villages that I should visit? Oh and I would like to keep the costs down so 5* B&B not necessary. Thanks.

It sounds like you have the right idea - get the trek from Brighton done on day 1 and get a good night's kip before the trackday. There are plenty of places around Oulton to stay - you could stay in Chester. There is a travelodge in the city centre and there are plenty of nice places to eat and drink. Will take you about 30mins drive from Chester to Oulton Park in the morning. You could always stay there on day 2, as the last thing you want is to be driving too far after a day on track. The Evo is about 1hr drive from Chester so I would suggest getting up early and heading there via the A494 (bit more interesting than the A5!) There are lenty of other roads around the EVO too. Im not very well versed on South Wales' roads, but if you wanted to do North & South Wales in one day and then get a B&B somewhere close to the motorway, you could do a lot worse than ending up in somewhere like Ludlow - its not a million miles away from the M40 which takes you in the right direction towards home.

Thanks for that! Plan to stay in Middlewich as it’s just off M6 and only 10 miles from Oulton Park. Will probably stay in Chester for the second night. Ludlow is a good suggestion, I’ll look into that.
Thanks again.

Careful around Bala there's a few speed traps on that road.

Thanks again. Tarporley is also quite nice - not sure if there are any B&B's there. Minutes away from Oulton too

Wy Ludlow is lovely and there are some great Salopian roads to enjoy but if your priority is the Beacons then maybe Rhayader would be better Of course, i could plan you a route from Ludlow to Builth Wells which you'll enjoy - alot! then you'll find yourself almost on the doorstep of the Beacons and with Epynt and/or the Upper Chapel road to negotiate in between Although the A470 is a great route thru mid Wales it's also, for this area, full of traffic that would curb enthusiastic progress. Rhayader will put you right by the Elan valley if you fancy that
