Random slightly off topic question, is it unusual for a 400SE to have an NCK engine number?? I thought they were 390SE, 450SE and SEAC related?
Maybe the first few 400SEs had the engines done by NCK while TVR waited for Landrover to sort out their own '4L' - the 3948cc. What year is the 400? Is it a hotwire?350Wedge said:

if i had seen this at the ebay price i would have had it.
You and me both, only £8.5k on buy it now!!Can't see it selling for a substantial period of time, not at that price!!
I think the price is high but they are rare cars and should have a higher value that a standard wedge.
Still some one should have bought the car when it was at lowest price.

It may be a rarer car but there are few people that would part with over £17k for it even with a re-spray and trim, I'm certainly not one of them!

That buy it now price disappeared though as soon as the first bid was made due to no reserve on the car. The bidding had got up to over £7k and rising when the listing was pulled early. If the buy it now had remained because of a reserve I would have bought it instead of the 400SE I bought shortly afterwards.
HiAs I said earlier I had bid on the car and was in discussion with the owner, then somebody (Who will remain nameless, but he tried the same thing with me when I was selling my Taimar turbo) viewed the car and flashed the cash and got it!
Again as I said earlier I do hate that!

MY 400 is an NCK, one of the first 1988 cars. It also has a super rare pre Serp Poly V drive. Only seen a handful of these and they have been on SEAC's. Guess I was luck with the parts bin! Andy

Campbell, what's a 'standard' wedge?
Thats an interesting question as over time they have all changed in some way shape or form as the owners put there touches on there cars but thats the same for all Tvr'sWhat I think would stand as a standard car is a car thats not been overly changed from the factory.
If you have changed suspention or engine then the car isnt standard.
As for the SEAC model it was a racer that ended up as a road car, its more on the edge to drive not as easy to live with unlike the SE models.
This car may not be worth that the current price as people may not have the money spare to pay for a toy.
A car is only worth what some one is willing to pay for it.

In principle a SEAC is going to be worth more than almost any other model with the 450 worth more than a 420 (assuming negligible difference in condition), largely because that reflects how they sold in the first place.
I guess it depends on how you want to present your car: would you be happy with a scruffy SEAC or would an immaculate 350i that needs nothing doing suit your taste better? For me, I don't mind my car being a bit of a shed; it's still what it is and my enjoyment doesn't particularly come from making sure that I can see my face in the tyre walls - but I wouldn't denegrate anyone who needs that buzz.
I was offered a SEAC for £8K a few years ago that the seller freely admitted needed £4K spending on it to bring it up to the average £12K that they were fetching then. I didn't think that all the work was necessary - most of it was cosmetic - and I'd have lived with that and kept the money in the bank. The car on Ebay could well be the same: what it actually 'needs' and what you could live with will determine your ultimate investment in time and money.
People will always find the money for toys, there are few 'feel-goods' left...
