Glad you think so, cheers for replying.

I thought I got flashed there going (possibly) over NSL, and have been pissing myself at the idea of getting multiple tickets going through all those cameras.

Not sooo sure. they recently put up speed camera signs i believe which in my opinion means they plan on going live soon enough.

When the speed limits are lit up they are advisory as someone has said already, they are normally lit up in relation to how busy that stretch of motorway is at certain times of day ie. rush hour etc.....

The cameras are the variable limit type and I believe are active now, I saw someone get flashed twice by the last coastbound camera just before junction 7 on saturday morning at about 7:30am, I'm not sure if there active 24-7..... If they are then I'm screwed as I went through them late friday night doing more than enough to send me back to the future!!

If I get a ticket then I'll post it on here and you can take it that the cameras active!
Did you ever get a ticket?

And are they ONLY live when there are red circles around the electronic number thing? I went hurtling through at about 90 on Sunday. It was pretty empty, but I couldn't tell if I got flashed or not. Stupid idea, I know. It had been a long day.

The never ending mystery of the M20 camera's... One would assume the same principle as those on the M25 and M42 (Solihull) where you have the red ring implies they are live and would flash/ticket if you exceed the tolerance of typically a few miles over + 10%.... I've never seen the M20 one's on red and only the white matrix advising of a 60, which would assume an Advisory limit, like the box matrix displays you see if there is something ahead - so more caution than enforcement maybe??

I have done this stretch of road during the early hours at Warp 8 and not been flashed.

One of my daughters friends dad is a BIB, next time I see him I will ask for details and update the thread accordingly and that may indeed end the mystery.... Alternatively, we could employ the services of Scooby Doo to investigate further - Yakes Shaggy biggrin

Yeah, I have a group of friends who live around there, and none of them have ever known ANYONE to get caught by those cameras. It would be humiliating and damn unlucky to be the first, I feel.

But it would be nice to finally solve the mystery of the M20 speed cameras, and whether there's any point to them at all.

The consultation has been published by the Highways Agency, and was sent off to the Government for approval before the General Election.
As there has been a change in Government I can only think that this is the reason for the delay. Someone did mention to me the new Government were going to review speed / safety cameras so I'm personally hoping the scheme is scrapped, however, the Highways Agency have potentially wasted millions on installing the cameras etc when there was no agreement "from above."

Fred won't take the Mystery Machine over 55mph I've heard, so we're unlikely to find out if he gets an NIP.

Just got notification through that the controlled section of the M20 (J4-J7) will be going live week commencing 23rd August.

So the variable speed signs will be working - I expect them to be reading along the lines of 40, 50, 40, 60, 50, 40... smile

Doesn't really mention the speed cameras with the exception of two lines in their brochure.

'These mandatory speed limits will be enforced by Home Office approved enforcement cameras, and penalties will be issued Kent Police'

and

'Overhead gantries will be used to display variable mandatory speed limit signs, variable message signs and Home office approved enforcement equipment.'

So, when the variable speed limit isn't activated, will the cameras still be enforcing the 70 limit?
