With a Lotus in Gold Leaf colours, spending most of your day at Druids and leaving just after the last FPA race?

Is it just me or does that look like a very wide M...?

scratchchin

Looking at it, wheelbase, cambers, type (and width) of wheels, exhaust exit point etc and it's almost as if it's a funny M body on a racing Tuscan chassis...

Did I read it was like that because it was based on one of the Canadian M's?

I saw you too! I was in the S2 lotus parked up, and was also at Druids most of the day, although being soaked to the skin, and with a bad back, meant I left after the last FPA race.

The TVR was superb, massive flame outs.

Indeed. Mind Heritage do not really care about this stuff. They will take any old basic shap and let you wack in some engine that was vaguely related to something that MIGHT HAVE ben in ooo Any pre existing TVR.

Not exactly FIA - Paper Paaaa.

This is the same Wheeler that sold half a company to the poor Russian boy (did not even sell the factory to build them - dodgy leasing subletting deals), and now he comes and rent the old space to this lot to Hop up some old M's. Laughable.

He just got bored and wanted out after doing a great job with the company from the mid 80's to mid 2000's. The Russian never had a chance (especially with the Chocolate 6 cylinder lumps!).

Take the money and run.

Not even sure why I am bothering writing this.....................

He sold the company. The company didn't own the factory or the land. Not his problem that the Russian did no diligence whatsoever. Would you buy a house without having someone check the deeds?

Anyway, it remains his factory and what is the problem with him employing 3 of his old race dept engineers to build him a car?

Personally I think its great that he's back racing a TVR

AHA - now Ihave looked closer!

Christ alive those Heritage lot will take anything.

If that can be raced no real reason a Tuscam with Sag race body and and LS can't.

The streching and widening is Daft as Daft (TVR_owner) wink says.

I'd be bloody Pissed off if I was out in the Heritage with a Real Griff (i.e. correct short wheelbase) and narrower car, with narrower rims. If this is cobbled together with a Tuscan 90's race chassis and a cut and shut body and longer wheelbase then it is not right. These cars were NEVER made.

And the one it claims to be copies of were JUST a straight forward 3000M with the Ford lump in.

Christ this might as well be the Super GT series.

Well i'm guessing, and the dealer sticker was a hint as i watched you drive off.

Ahr, Mr Robbo, I can put another 'spotted' down then. Saw you with your boot open and nearly popped over to engage in random car chat (okay, remind myself what the boot space is like on those so I can be 100% when I tell the g/f not enough for her needs!) but then it started to rain, again.

We were in the Boxster behind you.

Nope, deffo doesnt look like an original. Its windscreen is just way too wide!

What are the rules for racing a new chassis in this?

I'll check on the rules tomorrow - but looks to me this is totally bent.

Most on here will not give a SH*T - but some of the racers with older car might think it is NOT RIGHT.

If I was at the meeting in a period car and this HUGELY wide thing was lapping faster I'd be bloody putting in an appeal.

I have owned a 3000M and currently own a Chim (which is the same width as a Tuscan 90's racer) - the later car is MUCH WIDER.

The Heritage is for period (but can have alot of engine tuning) 60's and 70's cars, not a siloeutte series (which is waht this car is). There are LOADS of 3000M's, 2500M's and 1600Ms with 289 or 032 fords in but on the std length and width chassis.

BENT - but then Wheeler did always like an advantage - 4.7 or bigger Race engines and still no better than mid grid in the Tuscans.

Years ago Car Magazine did an article on the Blackpool TVRs and sent a photographer up there in one to capture some local flavour. He parked it next to the railings on the Blackpool Seafront in the pouring rain and retired to the opposite side of the road with his camera. Before long a damp bloke in a mac squelched past carrying a deckchair. The double page pic is the dejected bloke looking back at the car. It's brilliant.

That wasn't relevant at all, was it?

I think most on here are glad to see him out enjoying himself in a TVR.

If I were lined up on the grid next to him on Sunday in my M racer and he dissapeared into the distance after 2 laps, I'd be too busy laughing to consider even thinking about protesting the legality of his car. biggrin

If that makes me odd, then it just confirms what the wife thinks...

Reading this thread- real shame there is still so much bhiness in the TVR community over all sorts of things from the Speed 6 engines to Wheeler etc etc.

If the car was 5000M was illegal, up to scrutineers and fellow competitors to take it up.

I think the main thing is that it's positive TVR publicity and shows how strong the brand still is. Hopefully things like this will help keep the brand alive for the day when a modern day, reliable Chevy/Ford engined Griff/Chim is made again, that appeals to the masses....

Well said 3doorpete.

Having owned a 3000M and upgraded to a Chimaera I have always loved the M more for some reason. Having seen photos of the 5000M and looked at the rear shoots you can see it is an M Series Chassis from the rear and the engine shot also proves its an M Chassis.

If you never owned an M and never worked on one, you will never know how to tell, but its an M alright and boy its good to see the Best TVR ever is the Last TVR ever to leave the Factory.

Lets hope we have some more 5000M being built for sale soon. My name will be done for one and the divorce will follow, but I would have one.

Well done Peter & Ben on your first outing.
