Looking to do a few small bits in metallic base and clear at home and will be using a 2k lacquer with air fed mask as I've painted solid colour, single stage 2k before so have the gear.

However this is my first time using metallic - I know I need to buy the metallic base coat, but given this will be in a garage at home and not an oven will not be water based. Therefore, my question is what type (chemical) of metallic base coat do I need and is this a 2k hardener based paint that will require the same breathing apparatus.

Or is it a less harmful paint that can just be used with an appropriate filter mask?

What do I order for base coat?

I've seen paint called 1k, acrylic, enamel, synthetic, polyurethane etc, etc - what do I need and is it a 2k?

Thanks in advance.

solvent basecoat , it typically mixes 50/50 basecoat thinner , no hardener required

example https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153724512823?

if in doubt ask the seller for a tech sheet

Assume as a metallic it goes on 'dry', i..e not like trying to lay down 'wet glass' as you would a clear coat?

yes it will dry dull , but you want to put on a reasonbly wet coat so its not like sandpaper , 2 -3 coats 10 mins apart , it will dull as is drys , you can add a drop coat to even it out at the end
