I was born in 1978 so i've always liked 90's Fords, but always appreciate these when at shows.

I guy in our local RSOC group had a genuine factory X pack white one, alsways had great road presence.

Perhaps the target audience, those who recall them new but couldn't stretch to one, are in their own beige period... winkgetmecoat

Gates of Woodford had obviously sold that beige I mentioned in my post a few up, as I'm pretty sure it was Gates of Woodford who were the Ford dealer that had that 'last one left' Beige RS2 I mentioned above, as the show was in Chigwell, so just up the road from Gates.

And funnily enough, a good mate of mine bought the very last Mk.1 RS2000 that was sold new, although he bought it off the orginal owner rather than buying new.
It was Modena Green reg number OJO567P.

Yes Gates deffo didn’t have any RS2s left, so the beige one must have been sold by the time that my pal went in there. I was working just a few hundred yards up the road @ a Dire s hole of a BL dealers called W.J.Wells of Woodford. I recall being out the back of the workshop one lunchtime and my pal driving past in his new RS. I don’t think he really wanted a red one one, but il ask him. Why he went down the glass sunroof route I just couldn’t understand, but they were so popular back then. I remember one night, myself in my 3 Litre Capri with a pal and him in the RS with another pal, we were going to Wooly Hall ( Epping Forest Country Club ) and as we went past Debden broadway we booted it. I was in the left lane, I pulled out to over take a car, without realising that the RS was coming up fast behind me, good job his car had good brakes !

That may well have been the BL dealer as well, although, it might not have been, because they were definitely a Triumph dealer, as 3 years earlier I remember they had a Russet Brown Stag on their stand, which the SE had said was the very last new Stag they had left for sale (stopped production in June 77)

Correct.
Any X-Pack options specced from new by buyer would be fitted by the supplier dealer prior to customer collection, and was never done at the factory as far as I'm aware.

Never driven the 131 sport, i remember when they came out, saw a few around, only in Grey or orange?
I recall the road tests raved about the ride and handling being better than the RS, but slower in a straight line. Shame it did not come from the factory with 150 bhp ish.
I believe they also came wit a Volumetrico 140hp, and then there was the abarth 131 with almost 150hp still not much, but for the time nice :-) and the few Abarth Volumetrico with 170 or so hp I've came acros somewhere only 25 or so of those.

ah, The 131 Supermirafiori Volumetrico and the 131 Racing Volumetrico.

150hp would have been knocking on the door of the 131 Abarth...although that was out of production by then I think?

However, given that basically the same engine was fitted in the Strada, and the 130 version of that had a pair of sidedrafts bolted to it, that same 130hp spec engine in the 131 Sport would have likely made it sell a lot better in the UK, and it would have sounded lovely as well.

sorry all, mis-phrased, it was 100% fitted from new - dealer not factory

Not worried about the Fords but the Alfa 166 & Alfetta are lovely. Could be tempted by the Triumph Herald as well.
I had an identical looking 166, except mine was the 3.0 V6 with the six-speed manual. Great car. Loved it to bits. Eventually sold it for scrap as the clutch went and it was a £1500 job on a car that, at the time, was probably worth about that.

This was a genuine X pack, supplied by Hendy Lennox as Brian Hendy's own car, which my Dad bought after having a go in my Mk 1 RS2 smile
The flat front [which we preferred] was fitted after it got stolen and recovered in our ownership, broke my heart that did!

Apparently its still around, but white now!

I've owned both....and as much as I loved my SL, I would choose the RS today just because of the parts supply for the Ford makes ownership much easier than the SL, where some parts are very hard to source, or simply just non-existent.
7 RS Escorts, and now on my 3rd Lotus Sunbeam. I get your point, as you Very well know however the Club [SLOC] which you might of mentioned you had a part in wink is VERY good and can usually come up with parts required. Its one of the big attractions of older RS Escorts though, there is nothing you cant buy for them.
Ah, SL, Sunbeam Lotus, that makes more sense smile. I was thinking Mercedes and couldn't see the connection - the trouble with abbreviations.

W.J. Wells were originally Austin, the building was called “ Austin House “ in its very early days. My Late Dad bought his Healey 3000MK3 & a Mini van new there in August 1964. They were never Triumph agents, the only Triumph I ever saw was a “ tuned “ green TR-4 that it’s bearded owner used to bring in for a tune of of its twin Webbers on the rolling road.
I’m sure that it was “ Harvey Hudson “ just along from Gares and “ Lambs of Woodford “ who were the Triumph main agents in the area.

Yeah it is a different colour. It looks very complete though, with some of the harder to find bits present.

Quite like that colour combo, my first choice would be orange but the beige is unusual.
Yes, the fact that it looks quite complete is one good thing. Its a shame its not actually a bit rougher so the price would be lower!

Of the later colours, Java, Nordic and Terracotta are my favourites.

For the earlier broadstripe cars (which I prefer) Signal Green or Signal Orange would be my preferred colour.

My problem is I don't like Black, White, Red or Yellow......which doesn't leave much options laugh
Colour is always a personal preference. Beige in a car is my worst colour followed by Brown.

For me any colour other than Beige or Brown would be fine for a decent RS2000 with Yellow or the Bright Orange (not sure of its name) being my favourites.

Notwithstanding my loathing of Beige, it’s still a lovely looking iconic car.

Lambs of Woodford rings a vague bell.....but it was 45 years ago now laugh

Yeah, I struggle with hearing aid beige tbh.....I had a Mk.3 Cortina 2.0GT 2-door in Sahara Beige with a brown vinyl roof.........(and lots of rust) vomit

Browns I don't mind though, especially some of the metallics like Ford's Roman Bronze, Arizona Gold, Tawny Metallic, or Copper Bronze (Sweeney Consul GT) or RR's Walnut, and some of the other nice Copper and Bronze colours.
