Fellow Pistonheaders / comrades etc,

I'm terrified of heights. I've spent most of my life not contributing in any way to charity. I've obviously never abseiled or anything the likes. I'm doing probably my first charitable thing ever and abseiling off the top of London's tallest abseilable structure, guys hospital tower, 500 feet.

If any of you can afford a fiver towards a good charitable cause, or at least fancy a gamble on the chance i might splat myself on the pavement, please consider muscular dystrophy and give a fiver here. Honestly - whats a fiver these days, not even 10% of a tank of petrol.

You're welcome to come and view on the day - its Sunday 17 Aug 11am.

I hope its ok for me to put this post here.

Thanks

Alan Valentine

First step's a doozy, after that it's all downhill.

We were part of the mass abseiling world record at Twickers a few years back, also for charity.

Great fun.

Good luck.

Well you in the right place to suffer a leg breaking fall, get them to stand underneath with a trolley and they can catch you and push you straight in to theatre.

At the risk of sounding thick, why can't you abseil off anything taller?

Yuo can't abseil down that, it's sloping too much.

I've jumped out of a plane but wouldn't do what you're up to, mad bugger!

thanks for the support guys, I totally can't believe I've got my first donation from a pistonheads member, bow down in respect for angrys3owner!!!

pistonheads have beaten family, friends and colleagues so far!!!!! says a lot hahaha

I didnt realise how high 500 feet is, until I got home, and was told "you what?!! I cried at a 50 foot abseil when i was at Air Training Core when i was young", so i started googling to get an idea of what 500ft is, and this was the pic that came back

just sent an email to work colleagues to get them to support, and one of the cheeky buggers sent an email about saying to sponsor him to tamper with my equipment biggrin

Other support from my colleagues included "you know about 50% of people who fall from less than 3 stories survive, but practically noone survives a fall greater than 10 stories...did you say 50 stories?"

others responded pictorially with their support

Im thinking I should contact whoever promotes that batman movie thats out, and see if theyll give me a batman suit to do it in, then again id probably get mistaken for some kind of fathers 4 justice madcap biggrin

Thanks again guys for the support. feel free to jeer/egg me / whatever on the day biggrin

Once you jump and you know it's only down it's quite thrilling and you'll love it.

eek500fteek

It'll be breezy.

I've done two bungee jumps off a 200ft crane over a pub car park. They even laid out a blue plastic matt just in case, which was nice.

They'll probably get you to sign organ donor forms just before you "go"

Good luck, e-mailed your link to my Brother (in UK) He is a Guys product, I'm sure he will kick in something. (for both of us)

I guess if you look at the shapes of 1 canada square, e.g. its pyramid on top and the gherkin with its belly, that rules those two out

I beg to differ. This is me abseiling 770ft down Canary Wharf Tower:

the pyramid on top of 1 Canada Sq is actually a suspended pyramid. There is a substantial walkway all the way around it, with the most amazing views.
