I heard a rumour (in the print trade) that the reason that the price of IPA had gone up was because the Chinese had developed a taste for drinking it!

Well I tried today and they said they did not sell it, maybe I'll have a go in a different branch. If not I'll have to try more chemists.
Dont go to a highstreet store, they know fk all about chemicals .. find a back street independant.. the kinda owner who is also the Parmacist.

I have the same problem buying Fullers Earth, "flowers" of sulphur, activated charcol and Potassium permanganate (KMNO4)

also, never buy the above products with salt peter ... they look at you as if yoru some kind of terrorist !hehe

I bought 500ml of IPA from Boots once, I've also bought it from an independent pharmacist, but generally I get it from Farnell.

I tried to buy some in boots, they looked at me blankly whilst i said propan-2-ol and IPA, and as soon as I said isopropyl alcohol they said "we don't see alcohol" and just kept repeating that as I explained it wasn't alcohol...

oh well...
So propan-2-ol isn't an alcohol then...

If you're in London you could try this place. It's near Goldhawk Rd Tube Station.

It's where I/we always get it from, we use it in the beauty salon/M.U.A trade.

ETA: It's 99% alcohol and it comes in 1L (£7.99) or 5L (£30.00) sizes.

You'd make a rubbish terrorist.

A backstreet chemist should be able to find this sort of stuff for you. What do you want it for though?

I see. Did you ask for isopropyl alcohol or 'rubbing' alcohol as its commonly known? TBH the person in boots was probably a moron and had no clue what you were asking about.
IPA and rubbing alcohol are not the same thing - IPA is 99% pure, RA is 75% IPA, and a few others mixed in for good measure or something.
