I bought an S2 and I'm like an over-excited 6 year old eating skittles and drinking Iron Bru! It's old, it needs some TLC (being taken care of by Elise Parts and Top Gear Automotive) but it's mine and it's been a long time coming! The MX5 is dead, long live the Elise!

Dear old mum came along to drop me to the car so I let her drive it back. She normally drives a Smart Fortwo so appreciated gears and the low slung position and is on the hunt for a mk3 mx5 now

Very nice!
You're also very brave...I have owned Lotuses for the last 6 years and I certainly haven't let my Mum drive any of them!!

Better than an MX5 anyday. Enjoy the car. Let your mum have a drive now and again, after all, she is your mum. Nice colour even if there really are very very few bad colours (The Harrods car springs to mind surprisingly!!!)Lotus Rules!

The Elise is the best pure sports car bar none....however, with a few simple mods, an MX is not far behind (I `ve owned both) and on a day to day basis the MX5 has it`s advantages. Still prefer the Elise though for it`s purity.

Agreed, the MX5 was a lovely drive. Mine was a Mk2 RS and had tein mono's, mich ps3's, a racing beat exhaust and elise seats and it made it much more focused but still didn't feel 'special'...
Great car though.
The elise is in another league though.

Ok I admit it depends upon where you draw the line between practicality/civilisation etc....plenty of people would think the Elise too extreme....but I have just used mine for every day commuting and motorway driving, and taking all my stuff away for the week (I work away from home) and it was fine...would have been a real chore, if not impossible in a Caterham/Radical etc...and it did not rain this week....would not have caused a problem in the ELise.
The definition of a sports car for me is 2 seats, lightweight, convertible, handles properly and is FUN...oh yes, and is a practical road car. There are lots of sporting/sporty cars, but that`s different. Might be an intersting topic, if it has not been asked before....what is your/the definition of a sports car?

The sports car definition has been done to death on various forums.
The Elise is perfect for me, I dont find it extreme at all, its got a windscreen, its got locks, its got a heater, even a stereo.
A caterham r500, or Atom, been in both, they're extreme. I guess its all relative.

Well done!
They look good in photos, but you need stand next to one to fully appreciate the proportions. Then you drive it....
