Headcover debate:
Putters should definitely have headcovers, vulnerable faces that are important to keep pristine, and a well looked after putter will last a lifetime.

Also, driver/wood heads are actually quite delicate too, and considering the £500 price tags nowadays, head covers make sense her too.

I shamefully did use headcovers when I bought my first set of expensive irons, I was young, had paid for them myself, and wanted to keep them nice. They were hellish to use though, and didn't last long.

Total banditry report.

Apologies to all those who have been on the receiving end of an absurd high handicap low net score. I did just that this morning.

15.6 Handicap giving 21 shots off the medal tees on The Kings. Front nine didn’t start too well, but then I managed a birdie and a couple of pars. 42 out (35 par).

Then the fun started and with a certain amount of incredulity I shot the last five holes in a net -8. Back nine in 38 (35 par). 80 gross, 60 net. Handicap is going to take a hit tonight. hehe

I'd put Wilson as the most underrated manufacturer of golf kit - so many classics and if I was after a new set of blades, the Staff model would be very high up the list. Like my Nike's they've got longer blades than usual, which makes them easier to hit than you think....

I think we know who’s the best ball striker on here! A bladed 2 iron! Beautiful sticks Bodhi!
Cheers fella! I've got the 1 iron somewhere as well, might have to dig that out.

Love a 1 iron cool

I agree re W/S, very underrated, a bigger name in the US. Your Nike blades are beautiful, classic, and I admire your commitment to playing them. I've bottled it for now, my old cavs are lovely, and more forgiving for sure.

My old 962 1 iron is one of my all time fave clubs, rescued many a round in the past, hated replacing it, but damn, hybrids are so much easier/more versatile.

For me the blade/cavity thing is determined on where your misses are on the clubface - high or on the toe you're going to have a bad time, heel/hosel way they aren't that different. You can probably guess where mine are hehe Add in the fact when I learned to play olin the 80s and it was blades or Ping Eye 2s, and that's why I'm sticking with them.

Finally had our first comp of the year at Stone - got off to a terrible start, blobbing the 1st after being on the green in two (I four putted...), and had 6 points after 6 holes, but sorted myself out after that and ended up with 32 points. Course - especially the greens - was still challenging, but swung the club well and was quite happy with the result.

Got to play with a 2 handicapper as well, and it was illuminating to see the difference between my golf and his. Biggest thing was not making mistakes - never had to look for any wayward shots and he never walked off with more than a bogey. Turns out it isn't the good shots that determine your handicap and level of golf, it's the bad ones - and his bad shots were better than mine.

Lots of food for thought, but happy with how the first time in the saddle for 6 months went.

Another admirer of WS irons. These are the ones I’ve just sold. Very easy to hit & served me well for over 15 years. Never needed to replace heads or shafts just grips….closest I’ll ever get to blades! biggrin

Very much this!

Well played Bodhi, 32 with a 4 putt eek, is very good indeed, I have you lowering your hc this year.

I'd love a set of 4i, 5i, 6i in the Wilson Staff CBs and then the 7i-PW in the blades. I might do that at some point, I rarely miss on the toe and don't tend to notice too much difference between the blades I've tried and 'game improvement' irons, other than actual face size, my bad shots on 'forgiving' clubs also don't go very far hehe

I've had a few hits now with my Wilson D9 Forged irons, I'm liking them a lot. I was looking forward to more time out on course, until it started raining again...

The Nike irons are fking gorgeous Bodhi, although I've probably said that before. You commented that the 2 handicap player had better bad shots, do you think that's shot choice or shot execution? Are you making the right choice but not practiced enough to execute it, or making the wrong choice?

Nice one. It’s great when a score comes together like that.

The boy and I ventured out on to the windswept frozen tundra that was out golf course. The weather app stating it feels like 5°.

I was flushing driver and my irons, but couldn’t hole a putt for love nor money, had 3, three putts and missed 3 more inside 6ft. Shot 79 with no doubles which was ok. Very frustrating.

The boy had his new irons and 7 wood in the bag for the first time. He shot a gross 108 for a net 58 and 50 points. Thankfully we were just putting in general play cards and not in the board come (which was won with a net 70).
His previous best 18 hole score was 122. He even had a 9 and a 10 today. But he als had his first birdie and was rather excited for a 4 net 1 on a par 5 bandit

First day of the spring meeting medal yesterday - didn't play that well, blading every chip and hit 4 bunkers (I've not been on one for 6 months!). A few good shots in between everything but I faded toward the end of the round finishing double, bogey, double, bogey. Ended up +4 net which is bottom-mid pack.

Was looking forward to redemption in the second day of the competition today but it's rained off (good in a way as wet golf is miserable!)

D9 forged are a lovely club, look beautiful at address, but still have all the tech.

Won the 1st round of our handicap matchplay 3&2. Didn't play great, but just enough to get through in the end.

Just tend to lose concentration mid round at the moment so need to work on that. Couple of highlights were a 9i to 2" on the 1st and finished with a 5w to 6ft on #18.

Still absolutely loving my TSR2 5w.

Thanks. I have purchased an indoor putting mat and trying to do a few 30 minute sessions per week in order to train a better strike..

Thank you. What a great round for your son. Just signed mine up on Openplay to get him a handicap - he's already hitting it scary distances aged 11... eek
