I'm sure there are several on this thread that understand Goodwood.

Not if they are using grass roots and Goodwood in the same sentence. It wasn’t true back in the day and it most certainly hasn’t been true in its second coming. Amusingly, I’d argue the only bit of GW which has got close to that has been the FoS.

If you read what Lockhouse said it's that he's not renewing Goodwood and is supporting grass roots events instead.

I think we all understand that Goodwood isn't synonymous with "grassroots", that's surely the point of the discussion. The debate isn't about what Goodwood is but what it isn't.

The mission statement in the GRRC annual report states: "Goodwood's objective is to be the world's leading luxury experience brand..." No mention anywhere of cars or motor racing. The question is, is that strategy working for the motor circuit events, particularly the MM?

(Having said that, the Goodwood reputation for quality would benefit from a little proofreading - three different spellings of hospitality (hospitlaity hospiality) in the email today.)

The email ref Festival of Speed I got this morning was very odd.
The text version is on about dogs and 'goodwoof', whereas the HTML version is the FoS stuff.

Qwolity.

I’ve previously been told off by the “club” for suggesting they employ a proofreader, however I repeated that in my feedback in the mass exodus, that I have yet to receive a newsletter without an error. Whilst I get mistakes happen to continually repeat month after month would have most people out of a job. Good to know all our feedback was listened to wink

Reading is hardly necessary, I was only skimming the email when the misspellings lept out and punched me in the eyes. It's a mystery to me why that doesn't happen to the people whose job it is to prepare it. Ironically, I had a bit of an effort to reproduce the errors in the earlier post as my own system automatically corrected it.

I've no qualification beyond 'O' Level English but these sort of mistakes always make my heart sink. To see it from Goodwood indicates to me how far their ambition of being "the world's leading luxury experience brand" is from reality. You can't imagine this sort of sloppy communication from Cartier, Veuve Clicquot or IWC Schaffhausen, the kind of company Goodwood aspires to keep.

Anyway, I seem to have fixed the issue now. To stop the relentless Goodwoof emails I pressed unsubscribe which seems to have disconnected me from all communications.

I agree with you however if you've seen some of the marketing material from Aston Martin you’d be surprised at how often even the big luxury brands send out typo ridden content.

That was quite funny, referencing "Aston Martin" and "big luxury brands" in the same sentence.

Stroll is probably aiming to be that but unsure if it'll become reality.
