Are Javelin Track days good or not?
Discussion
Used them a few times now...no real problems.
To me there were a few too many cars at anglesea last time out, espescailly on the smaller circuit,it was chocker! but is to be expected really as it was a cheap ish day.
I got warned for overtaking under braking, which was fair play...only I wouldn't have had to if the idiot by the side of me who let me past decided to floor the throttle, both hurtling towards a bend at 80mph.
Oh and got mistakenly black flagged too later that day.
Still good days tho.

BMWCC are charging £275 for the National on 9th Oct, and Javelin are charging £199 for the GP on 13th, so it's a no-brainer for me. I'm going again on 13th Oct.
The extras are very reasonably priced. Tuition = £20. Helmet Hire = £10.
Worth noting that the BMWCC don't need to make a penny on their days so if they charge more than an organiser that has to make a profit there will be a reason. The extras are very reasonably priced. Tuition = £20. Helmet Hire = £10.
They offer free tuition and aim to run low numbers which can be important at a track like Donny which often seems to attract more than an average quantity of red flags.
Also, the GP layout is the better one to run for costs as I'm pretty sure the extra hire rate is smaller than the extra number of cars you can run but it's generally considered that the National is the better layout to drive.
Apologies for going off-topic for the thread and none of this is a comment against Javelin but a cheaper day does not automatically make it a no-brainer as the better choice.
Also, the BMWCC event is on Sept 30th, not Oct 9th. In case anyone is interested .

Nsa, do you mind if I ask what you were black flagged for?
Overtaking on the way into a chicane, and then my exhaust had come loose and was hanging very low. I assumed the other driver allowed me through, but he complained and I was pulled in for a chat. Back out in a couple of minutes.

Javelin charge £30 for the garages, £20 for instruction, £35 for photos (not Javelin, but contracted out), no trophies or prizes, you won't be put in a magazine, no tyre support that I noticed. - Everything else looks the same. If you don't want the extras, why pay the extra £76? I don't know if you can hire helmets at the BMWCC meeting.Monday 30th September 2013

I'm not slagging off BMWCC, but it's just a matter of choosing who gets my money - BMWCC, or Shell and Michelin
I've just come back from a trackday with Javelin at Cadwell. It has been a while since my last trackday and it was my first time at Cadwell.
I was concerned that 80 cars had been booked in for an open pit lane day. The mix of race cars and track and road cars was many and varied. Lots of Caterham Grads and Academy cars, 750 cars and a BMW GT Cup car in amongst the typical mix of trackday warriors. There was even a lovely MK2 Jag preparing for the Carrera Panamerica!
At the briefing, Colin explained this was a trackday not timed practice laps, etc. He stressed the race cars should be suitably careful with other cars. He clearly explained where overtaking was appropriate and the conventions for overtaking.
I took advantage of the circuit instruction (extra cost of £20, but well worth it to get the most out of the track, lots of red flags in the morning session due to crashes and breakdowns dumping oil. Lots of cars out in the morning and mirrors were definitely important. The afternoon session was brilliant, hardly any cars on circuit at times, I did 4 laps with no one else on track!
I did have one incident with race car getting very close to collecting me at turn 2 as I let the car drift out to the approach to Charlies, he came up from Coppice flat out and I couldn't see him in my mirrors.
I went to see Colin and Bob, just to say I didn't think the car in question was being considerate to others. Colin said he would search him out and have a quiet word. Which is all I wanted.
It was the best trackday I have attended, due to the circuit, the weather, variety of cars and Javelin.

Free ARDS instruction, that's a welcome bonus, do you have to book instructors?

There's no free instruction with Javelin - it costs £20 (at Donington) and should be booked in advance to avoid disappointment, but can be paid on the day, iirc.Free ARDS instruction, that's a welcome bonus, do you have to book instructors?
