I understand what you are saying re the 1M v M3 , but realistically in the real world is there really an overtake you couldn't make in an M3 that you would do in a 1M.
Probably not, but I suspect there are some you'd have to change gear for first in the M3.

the absence of torque lower down (unlike say an equal powered RS4) is a negative for a daily driver on our roads.
inclined to disagree with that to be honest. have spent probably about 3-4k miles in an M3 and a similar amount in an RS4 and would say that low down there doesn't seem to be much in it, though the M3 seems a bit better top end.
Have you driven either car?

RS4 430 nM at 5500
M3 400 Nm at 3900

However, slightly more than 90% (circa 390Nm) of the RS4's torque is available from 2250 rpm. The M3 has to be revving at 3500 for an equivalent torque figure.

Once on the boil, I prefer the M3.

Evo's take on it, from the 1M/M3 feature in the current issue

With the 1M your money buys a bulging torque curve that swells between 1500 and 4500. On the road, that portion of the rev-range is where you will spend the vast majority of your time, so your money's worth is just there, ready and waiting to be called upon whenever you want it.

If you're a gear too low in a corner in the M3 you're left a little frustrated. In the 1M you've seriously misjudged things if you're in a gear that's too low, because you could probably pick any one of three ratios per corner and still find yourself with bundles of torque.

Went to see a VO 1M today for the first time and have to admit to feeling a little disappointed with the colour. In real life the colour is a bit dull, I was expecting it to be an in your face bright metallic finish, as shown on many photographs all over the web.

Not quite sure what colour to get now.

I took some pics of the car in question, this car is sold and the new owner will take delivery some time next week.

I don't know if he's on here or not but I hope he doesn't mind me putting pics up of his new car.

yes, however, i'll admit to having driven the M3 a lot more than the RS4. didn't seem much between them all to be honest low down. preferred M3 top end, all IMO though.

Exactly why I went for black! Orange was great in bright conditions including the showroom.

It's actually why I felt comfortable going for VO - stunning on a sunny day, blends into the background a little just mooching around the rest of the time :-)

Horses for courses, as always smile

Agreed with this.

You still in the same job and location Clive? I am mainly based in Slough now so would be cool to have a nose around your VO 1M. I can't stop looking at them in this colour. smile

Warning, my car is currently off the road, no availability of gearbox oil for the 1200 service.

Hopefully getting some for the end of the week from Germany.

This despite being booked in for nearly a week.

If your service is soon, have your dealer order it now.

Cheers.Want to wait 'till 1000 miles or so. Half way there. Got a trip 'oop north' planned so that should do it. Good mix of driving conditions too.

I take it this service is free???? and what all is serviced at 1200 miles? Just the gear box? As I have a 35iS and there was no service at 1200 miles.

In M cars the oil is replaced from the "running in" oil to the usual castrol edge stuff at the 1200 mile service. I imagine they perform some rudimentary checks also.
