Managed to get hold of a bar of this

on holiday in France last week. Tried a bit last night. I like strong dark chocolate - usually buy 70-80% stuff but dear god this is almost inedible! Will try again with a decent cup of coffee this evening to see if it makes it any easier to eat.

Anyone else tried it?

quite agree mate... not tried 99% but the stuff with a REALLY high cocoa content is bitter and a bit unpleasant. For cooking only methinks...

Green and Blacks Maya Gold... yum. and indeed scrum.

hehe There's a warning in French on the inside of the packaging which I haven't fully translated but runs along the lines of 'This is potent stuff, don't wolf down the whole bar in one go'

If you seperate out the parts of a Bendicks Bittermint, into the Chocolate (95%) and Fondant, you get really very bitter chocolate and far too sweet sugary stuff. But together, ahhhh heaven !

I've had the 80 or 85, and it made a nice change, but wouldnt want it all the time. Not sure about 95 though!

Currently tucking in to some Chilli Chocolate from these guys http://www.simondunnschocolates.co.uk/. It has chilli flakes all over the base. Very nice indeed, especially with a sip of brandy yum

Mrs Puggit and I resorted to one of these 99% cocoa bars (also purchased in France) once, when all other supplies of chocolate were exhausted.

hurl - it's revolting. It really is only useful for culinary purposes - at 99% there's no room for milk or sugar!

People who've only tried the 95 - try the 75/80. It's obviously a 'different' taste, but you'll actually find yourself wanting more of it. It's not so sickly.
