Another good day out and a superbly run event. As ever, good to see a varied mix of cars. Much respect to Roy Edwards, who won his class in the Escort MK1 can't really get my head round that he's now 80, and David leigh who pedalled the 1923 GN Spider round in 43.18 embarrassing a few modern cars! Not a brilliant video due to sunlight/shadow, my final run.

Including me! I reckon I'd have been faster if I'd brought the Saxo out rather than the Z4.

Brilliant weekend. Managed a 42.3 in the old e30 and pretty happy with that. If anyone has any pics or video would like to see them?
Roll on next year.

I had a great day too, but was left gagging for one last run!!! Manage to pull a 40.00 out at the end SOOOO close to an elusive 39!!! Was well pleased with that though as my car is fully road legal with 120bhp, and I managed to beat some full on race saloon cars with slicks and 500bhp. My Perspex windows, lack of a headlining (!) and fibreglass flip front make me have to go into their class, which is a pain but I had a fantastic time and improved my time with every run.

What were the black metal strips fitted to the front of all competing cars for?

Hi Andy, loving your minus, wanna swap??? :-). I am a huge kitcar fan.
I was pleased with that run, was pushing to just get below 41 so well chuffed to get close to a 39. Already contemplating putting a Quaife LSD in it, without one at the mo and it just wastes lots of time spinning, front and rear ARB's and maybe a rear beam axle?? And i need to put some negative camber on the rear wheels as it currently corners like a MKII Escort!! My only constraints are the mini has to able to be driven to the shops by my wife and capable of taking the 3 of us on days out! Should be quite a little tool when finished.

doing times like that mate dont change it! Id kill to get near that! ive got a few toys on the car but I think its just the driver being too careful as Im sure mine could do better than a 41.4 (my personal best) i think its the fact i really dont want to rattle the barriers with it(i didnt think that 10 years ago!)
Ive started a bit of a row on the sevenoaks forum after you mentioned the car, sorry but I want the last word on this one! some of these guys need to get out more!
theres a retro cars track evening at brands hatch early august fancy bringing your mini out for that?

Sorry mate, have not seen the Sevenoaks website since and any mention of your car was not personal!!! I was merely pointing out that a full fibreglass shell mini with Perspex makes a mockery of excluding mine for just a front end!! Hope you didnot take any offence, none meant, I love your car!!!
The Retro cars trackday sounds good, I will take a look and let you know. PM your mobile number and I will ring you, I would not mind a proper look over your car sometime.
It's funny, I thought after the bike-engined car I have, the mini would feel a bit slow and cumbersome after it, but I love it. I only ended up owning it after badgering it's keeper for 3 years, and him ringing me up offering it when I couldn't really afford or justify it! After the badgering I gave him I couldn't really say no!
But I am intrigued with how fast my kitcar would have done the course, 36 seconds is properly quick round there, just off the old lap record but it is hugely faster than the 40.00 sec mini and I expect it to be several sec quicker than 40. Roll on next year then eh?

Andy, dont get too stressed about our times, several different people told me I stopped the clocks at 40.00, but the official results say 41.0! Must have been a timing glitch, never mind must try harder next time!!!

No, No problem Lee, Funny that on my last run I stopped the clock on a 41 and got 42.2 on the results, timing glitches creeping in!
I plan to be at the brands mini festival on sunday 17th if your around.

Seems there were a few timing 'issues'. I got what came up as a 41 dead, but was awarded a 42.3. Mind you, I was quite content with that as it still meant I got quicker each run.

Hi, Lurked a bit round here and thought I'd join in.
I was competing at Crystal Palace on the Sunday in my Clan Crusader, great to meet you e21Mark - great looking car you have there.
Timing - My theory on the timing issues was that the timing display near the start, cut off when the next car left the line. The person reporting the time to you, only saw the stopped (because of the new staring car)time, not the real time. If the next car started after you went thro' the finish, you would see the real time. This is probably why you were being reported times that were quicker than your real times. Anyway, great event, superb atmosphere, and a class win on my first time at the Palace - couldn't get any better

Good to meet you too Eric. Loved the sound your Clan made off the line! Was great to hear the reaction from some of the spectators too! Certainly plan to be there next year.

Glad everyone had a good time at the weekend - it was fun to run too as everybody seemed to be smiling all the time.
Re the timing display, yes, sometimes it didn't hold the elapsed time for long but for some reason it also had a glitch when showing the running time. It would go to say 21.5 and then jump to 24secs so it obviously had trouble keeping up with the timing signal.
We'll try and do better next year in this respect.
If there's anything else that you would like to see or suggest then do please let us know as we are keen to make the event 100% if facilities and funds allow.
Andy

You all did a fantastic job Andy and everyone I spoke too, throughout the weekend, had nothing but positive comments to make. Hopefully more and more people will get to hear about the event and numbers will continue to increase. One small thing. Maybe a few more choices when it comes to food stalls? A bit of diversity is always a good thing. I'm already looking forward to next year.
