I like that film, but what did you make of the ending? Was he in purgatory after committing suicide? Or did the device transport him to another dimension?

I've not seen it yet, but my desire to see it stems from how weird it's supposed to be....

Melancholia (2011)

Blurb: "Two sisters find their already strained relationship challenged as a mysterious new planet threatens to collide with the Earth. "

!!
I liked Melancholia - it's pretty slow (which I don't mind), its more of a character piece looking at how sometimes dramatically different people cope with sometimes exraordinary events.
Just seen it last night. My wife said it is was depressing, I loved the weirdness and the final scenes are quite awesome (planet collides with earth)
Kirsten Dunst is excellent in it.

Another good one that just came to mind is La Cabina, or The Telephone Box, very odd Sapnish film from the early seventies that really instils a sense of desperation on the viewer.

Quite enjoyed Nightwatch, but haven't seen the follow up.
Nowhere near as good. I enjoyed Nightwatch, Daywatch not so much.
I have to agree with this too. Nightwatch is excellent, Daywatch is pretty stoopid.
Thanks folks. Went to see the trailer

Horror Channel has some proper weird films on at the moment. Last night they showed "Hell comes to Frogtown".

Softcore Porn meets Mad Max meets Rowdie Roddie Piper.

odd catchline "first were going to free them then your going to impregnate them"

nuff said really.....So bad they made two more.... well worth a drunken watch.

I figured he'd gone on to another dimension again. And wikipedia suggests that's what the director was thinking.

It reminded me of the story of Dante's Inferno, the journey through the nine circles of Hell. The main character committed suicide at the start iirc, and I thought the film could represent his journey through limbo; with the end of the film showing his passage to the next circle as further punishment for his sin. Perhaps he used the science he was familiar with to rationalise the experience, but at the end he realised the truth of where he was and dropped the mic. Just my overactive imagination I guess!

The Bed Sitting Room. A weird comedy about the aftermath of a nuclear attack on London. IIRC, it starred Peter Cook and Sir Harry Secombe. The central character suffers the effects of radiation poisoning and mutates into a brick bedsit. Britain still has a monarchy, but it's Mrs. Ethel Shroake on the throne. Peter Cook plays a chief constable who travels about in a Morris Minor suspended from a balloon. He shouts at people to keep moving. I'd like to see it again sometime.

Can I just highlight the utter stupidity of inventing your own "spoiler" tag that doesn't hide the spoiler in any way whatsoever, when there is an existing spoiler tag that is not only shorter but does actually hide spoilers?

It's the word 'spoiler' in square brackets. So just like yours only shorter and without going to the hassle of using bold and the like. rolleyes

Hmm, sorry for the apparent "utter stupidity" but the regular spoiler tag doesn't seem to always hide the text - I just tried to edit the post again to add it.

Just thought it was better to highlight the post as a spoiler in some way so people could skip it easily.

I've removed the post.

Watched two that had been recorded from Film 4 last week.

Kaboom

The Loved Ones

Both rather good. Well OK, Kaboom would have been pants without all of the sex scenes (and about 4 minutes long), but it was certainly surreal, no doubt about it.

Yeah, I enjoyed Kaboom, although I found the plot a little hurried at the end.
