GhostDriver said: Russian Film Nightwatch and follow up Daywatch.
Really freaky big budget Russian answer to Matrix, but story line more along lines of Manga.
Worth a watch definitely. As recommended by a friend, I watched it until halfway through. Just seemed kack to me IMHO.

As good a place as any to ask a question about a weird film I'm trying to remember the title of. It was foreign with subtitles, possibly Belgian although I'm not sure. It began with a couple arguing in a bleak kitchen before they both go off into the dark city, at night, on their own. The guy drinks at some depressing bar. Later I think they meet up briefly and dance together. There's a scene where someone is killed by a church bell on some wasteground (?). I can't recall much more but if anyone can suggest a title...

If it's not been mentioned already 'The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and her Lover'
You won't watch Masterchef in the same way again.

I remember A Zed & Two Noughts being odd, as well as The Draughtsman's Contract (same director as the Cook etc.).

Was in the cinema for The Cook etc and quite a few folk walked out. Primer is an odd but good film. However, make sure your DVD is working correctly, not like ours. It got half way through the film and, unbeknownst to us, jumped back to the first scene. We just went with it because we thought 'well it is about time travel innit'. It was only when it did it for the second time, and we realised that nothing had changed, we investigated and found we had watched the first half twice! Slightly odd but enjoyable films in my view: Bunraku, Sucker Punch, Bubba Ho-Tep and a beautiful old film called A Matter of Life and Death. Enjoy Trace

Some sad soul has written up the timeline for Primer here. http://www.primermovie.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=...It's a good film but there's not enough explanation. As timetravel weirdness goes I prefer Timecrimes. It's still very complex but it's so well done you find yourself following it without any effort. Essential viewing for anyone who likes timetravel films (unlike The Time Traveler's Wife, which was terrible despite the book being my favourite single novel of all time).

Each to their own, I thought Primer and Timecrimes were both dreadful films while I quite enjoyed Time Traveller's Wife. Primer gets lost up the arse of its own complexity to the extent that it can only appeal to geeks; as a piece of cinema it's just a chore to watch. There are much better time travel movies out there, imo.

There's a particular scene near the end of the book that crystallised the whole story but in the film they replaced it with a really atrocious skipping-through-a-field-family-style sugar fest. I guess I just hate most big budget productions because they have to appeal to the majority and my personal taste rarely conforms with the public.
