Not a great opener tbh, I will of course stick with it and watch all of the episode because they always have genius comedy moments.
But as far as S8 ep1 goes, I found it quite predictable.

I didn't like the way Jeremy did something silly and then Richard said something stupid and James May could shine on his own.

Read a Top Gear thread, it's all about how they don't try properly any more, it was better in the old days, only one character still entertains and people who don't like it shouldn't watch but they still do in the hope it might get some of its old charm back. Same old st, different program.

The problem with the opening show of the latest season is that as these long running sitcoms become more like soap operas they feel the need to spend a whole episode in explaining away the cliff hanger at the end of the last season.

So, you get a bit about Sheldon being robbed, a mention of Penny's haircut and a job interview, Stu still being with Mrs W, none of which were especially funny (other than the Amy not listening joke mentioned earlier). rather than just getting on with making jokes about them being nerds and scientists which is what should be the USP of the show.

As awful as this sounds, TBBT with hot Penny is a lot more watchable than with short-hair Penny. When they make jokes about her being hot (with short hair) I kind of sit there thinking "but you're not".
What?
Seriously? For years my wife thought that I only watched it for Penny. Based on ep.1 of this series, she's finally right.

I'd say she looks really good with the short hair, not a look I'd expect to like but on her but it looks excellent.

Seasons 2-4 is where I think she looked hottest - She looked good in Season 1, but the straight hair wasn't as hot as the longer, curly, hair.

I give you:

She's growing up, but she seems to have slipped in to wearing some shapeless bags...

Yep,

One small thing summed it up for me, Sheldon says to Leonard "I want to have coitis" and there's a canned "wooooooo" from the audience - things like that really highlight the transition from sit-com to soap.

I'm sure there will be golden moments this series, but so far, so 'friends' - I feel a lot of the audience are less interested in the one-line laughs which are always brilliant on BBT and more interested in Sheldon getting his leg over.

Yes, I hate the demented shrieking from the audience whenever a long-anticipated event occurs, or is even hinted at. Most US sitcoms are the same.

All we need is a picture of Bernadette in the racktastic red dress and the thread will have descended into schoolboy central.

Seriously creepy.
