That final episode felt like somebody in the production team had said "You know we're getting slagged off for this season being rubbish, and you know what they're right, so for the last show we have to make a huge leap in the story arc. Some of the characters you could see the plot progression, but Sheldon and Amy, where the heck did that come from.

I agree. It felt like it was written in for the sake of adding impact. A shame really.

The bit about choosing to commit to a series until the bitter end had my irony meter off the scale. It must have been a knowing wink to how pants this series has been, right?

Agreed. When the episode started I had to go onto 4OD to make sure I had not missed a few episodes where their relationship developed to where it was in the final episode. Very strange.

Another theory I heard was that the current set of scriptwriters thought / heard they were going to be binned so finished off with a "Get out of that" present to the next set.

Bit like the rumours during one of the 24 seasons, several sets of scriptwriters working on different parts of the season. Each set trying to outdo the next with cliffhangers. Almost a game.

I watched this ages ago when it was aired and again last night - It all felt rushed and a bit slapdash.

The Leonard/Penny thing was just too contrived for my liking - And the ring, that just felt tossed in as an afterthought...

Just another "woooo" episode for me, named after the sound the 'live studio audience' makes when they suddenly drop in a big plot shift - usually involving a love story.

When it's good, it's great - the "bodies of the dead sinners" line alone was worth the price of admission - but sometimes it goes all friends, forgets it's meant to be a silly fun comedy and turns into a soap opera.

I like BBT, and love some of the episodes, but it never was or will be Friends, although it does look lately that it wishes it was :/.

Not as daft as when Sheldon buggered off on that train journey at the end of one series.

Still cannot get used to Penny with short hair

Hey, we will all be watching it when the next series starts.

It is still one of the best on TV.

I forgot about this thread - Not a great episode, but it ties up the end of S8 I suppose - A few "convenient" story lines and you can see a couple of storylines coming up.

No Emily in this one which was a shame though.

Oh dear oh dear, it appears that the writers have forgotten that they are writing a comedy and instead have chosen to write a soap. 1 out of 10 is being generous.

This is what happens when a comedy becomes focused on relationships rather than its original storyline.

Nothing definitive, it seems, but this link:

http://bigbangtheory.wikia.com/wiki/Season_9

Contains details of 4 (at present) of the Season 9 episodes - It looks interesting to say the least.

As above, that link's a giant spoiler - potentially.

It's a completely different show to when it started and one I'm fast losing interest in. Not really sure where else they're supposed to go with it though. Perhaps it should've ended a season or two ago. The Breaking Bad creators understood this and ended on a high despite what must have been enormous pressure to keep a monster of a show rolling.

Now after watching BB, I can comment. biggrin BB was singular in that one guy created and had an endgame all the way at the start (a brilliant example of character study), I think only BSG can say the same. He had a map he followed, most other shows meander and are at the whim of the suits...just thought of Game of Thrones, another endgame/roadmap show. Sitcoms rarely (ever?) have endgames. Only Fools reached a natural endpoint..and then continued for a few years.
