He was all over the media last week defending the governments policy of selling off school playing fields, saying it was 21 and the reasons for the sales, I heard him interviewed on LBC after the Olympics spouting numbers with absolute conviction and arguing with the interviewer. Now it turns out it was 30 and he was wrong, they are blaming wrong data, it just goes to reinforce something we all know, never ever trust http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19291911

There is a clear fault with information that was provided but the person lying here is in fact you!

Based on information supplied to him by his officials..... Or do you really think the Prime Minister is personally involved to a level that would enable him to answer without data supplied by others. And the reasons for the sell offs remain unchallenged, (school closures, mergers etc) so as far as I can see he was missinformed at worst. The liars were the Guardian and such like, who knew the reasons for the sell offs but chose not to mention them in their sensationalist stories. Note to the Labour defenders on here: I have not used the "labour sold off hundreds in their time" rebuttal, so please don't post replies as if I have!

Presumably he was supposed to go round and count the fields concerned personally, so that he couldn't later be accused of 'lying'?

He got himself involved, because of Team GBs success in the games, my point that you clearly missed was that he was vehemently arguing every one of the sales and had all off the details to hand, yes he was lying and if the data he was provided with was wrong that's down to him, he can't have it both ways, we are expected to credit polotitions with integrity, or so they keep telling us.

Why should he be responsible for quoting incorrect information that was supplied to him?

And? If you treat them all as lying incompetent b ds in the first place then you wouldnt find yourself so shocked when they turn out to be lying incompetent b ds. The aim of govt is to fiddle, the aim of the individual should be to ensure that govt impacts upon their life in as small a way as possible.

Why do you persist with the "He was lying" nonsense? The media stirred up a poo storm by flagging up these sales during the Olympics. Far be it from me to suggest that the Guardian deliberately waited till the PM congratulated Team GB on its success before releasing its (very twisted and deliberately missleading) version of the story, that was clearly designed to damage the PM as much as possible. There was a thread on here about it, with the usual suspects leaping on board the band wagon in their haste to bash the PM. So, the PM responded to the allegations. I've no doubt that the conversation with his aides went something like " What the clucking bell happened here?" and the aides provided him with the data that largely proved that his critics were just s t stirring liars. So now, the number is 30, rather than 21. But the reasons behind the sell offs remain unchallenged. Being missinformed by his aides does not Cameron a liar make (in this instance)

Moreover, as I understand it the 9 were "in train" at the time of the election.
Should they only count as half theirs as a result, so they get 25.5?
Or why not just blame Margaret Thatcher?
Also, are schools forced to sell these off by central govt? Or is the decision down to the LEA, school, council??

As said by the poster, CMD really 'argued with conviction' the 21.
In truth you don't argue with conviction if 'supplied' with information.
'IF' he had said 'the information I have been given is 21 playing fields', he's off the hook.
But no. So, in this case, to many he looks a liar, he's thinks he's 'B'liar except Bliar is/was far, far more astute than CMD can ever be!

Also, are schools forced to sell these off by central govt? Or is the decision down to the LEA, school, council?? Local authorities ask for consent from the Secretary of State. He has an independent advisory body which suggest to him whether the disposal should be given consent. He then either consents to the disposal or rejects it. The bigger issue here isn't whether the number of disposals is 21 or 30 but why in 5 of those cases the independent advisory body recommended not giving consent but the Secretary of State gave consent. Where the advice is not followed there should be a requirement to explain why not.
