Sometimes it's an actual RAC bloke with a uniform and he salutes you smile then you'll be ok, but usually it's some scruffy Herbert with a dirty van who just tuts and does bugger all.

Do they still do the nice metal badge that you afix to your chrome front bumper?
I've been helped out of a hole by the RAC multiple times. Never had a wrongun. Flat batteries, two flat tires at once, nothing very serious but a pain in the hole if you had to sort it yourself. I've watched while they phone around local garages and in one case got one to stay open past closing time while I was towed there.

I'm sure there are some bad at their job but thankfully I haven't encountered them. In my experience they're decent people getting on with the day job. I even have had good conversations with the call centres although do get annoyed at the upsell when I'm told my policy doesn't cover that. Things like the automatic 40% discount annoy me, just price things honestly.

They have been in London. Every street dug up for fibre!

I’ve got it, 1gb service. It’s been great!

Should have put a Starbucks main in while they were at it, then no one would ever need leave home.

Internet speeds are getting so fast it's hard to know what to do with them. Although working from home I do notice upload speeds aren't always so great.

I regularly VPN onto customer sites, many of them are telcos, and my home internet is often faster than their bloody network for file transfers.

how about a humble twix? is that not upper middle class enough ?

I've noticed these little suckers have been creeping up. 90p for a 50g bar now here, in Carrefour, way away from any tourist price gouging.

I am sure its been said before on here many times but i can not believe the price of a sunday roast at these pub restaurant type places.

Very nice i'm sure but your looking around £25-35 a head at a couple of places round here and thats not including any drinks or the inevitable sides a greedy bd like me would want.

So a meal for a family of 4 is £100 plus. 4 people having a roast and a couple of drinks each must be pushing £200 at one of the places.

These places are rammed, one which i drive past most days is rammed most of the time.

Perhaps retired people with a bit of £ wanting a nice meal, in fact all the people who recommend these places are retired and pretty comfortable so i suppose thats the target audience.

Maybe i am deluded, it just seems an awful lot of money for what is a pretty regular type of meal.

Either way, no wonder the toby carvery is always full to the brim as while the food might not be quite as well presented its still ok and you get a mountain of sides for about half the price.

That seems very expensive. We enjoy a nice carvery and the average price around here (Suffolk) is around £15/£16. We even know of a couple of pubs that still only charge £11.95 for a carvery.

Yes you can go to a 'foody' pub and pay £25, but it's not usually any better than a run of the mill type of pub.

In Leeds it’s £25+ for a Sunday roast these days. Same in South Hampshire where I also spend a fair bit of time. Seems to be the new standard.

On a recent trip to the Cotswolds we ended up in a Brewers Fayre most nights as it seemed the most value for money and the food and service were far superior to the grub in the posh hotel bar we were staying in.

Most pubs round here, SW London, charge £18 for burger and chips FFS.

ETA

There's a local pub that we took my mum to for a Sunday Roast. 2021 and they were charging £25 back then.

The food arrived and no roast potatoes!!!

They were an extra, at around £4.

Add the £7 pint and £12 medium glass of house red and that's why I can say I've probably been to a pub about 7 times in the past 3 years.

I was thinking similarly, not a criticism but 25-35 sounds steep.

Most of the people I see in carveries (I’m aware of a very good one, won’t mention it too many might turn up) are pensioners and they don’t have that kind of money. I’d be annoyed if they asked for 15.

Can’t stop the father in law trying to give money to me. I keep saying I don’t need it but makes him feel better to put a few quid in the jar so to speak, I can’t criticise him for wanting to do that. We do the odd carvery when I can’t be arsed cooking.

If you want cheap, edible, food for home, go to Iceland. I find their quality excellent.

I had one of these for lunch in the week, £1. I kid you not, had I been charged £9.99 in Zizzi, or similar, I would not have been disappointed.

I never do ready meals but looking at the ingredients that’s not the worst. I’d eat it.

I can get quite puritanical about processed food so odds are I won’t.

I have never been to an Iceland. Looking forward to a little explore on my next day off biggrin

Sad isn't it, my days off tend to be walks to different Supermarkets.

Exercise and processed foods, what could go wrong laugh

Mums shop at Iceland wink

Pub grub has got expensive, rare we go out as a family of 3 and get much change from £75. My wife has stopped drinking which has saved us a significant sum of cash given the price of a half decent crisp white wine in pubs!

No it’s not. For example, go to the Midnight Bell where you’ll get one of the best Sunday lunches around the city centre and it’s a fair bit less than that.
