The checks and balances that were meant to prevent the abandonment of the founding principles only work is people don't want to abandon them, I suppose. The GOP decided to adopt the Christian right to shore up it's voting base decades a go and now here we are - I think they know Trump is only in it for him self but they also know he is more than happy to give them what ever they want in exchange for saving his own skin.Countdown said:
It's not just the GOP - Trump also appears to have corrupted SCOTUS which was probably the last bastion of democracy in the US.
I would include Trump and the current state of SCOTUS as a consequence of the GOP courting the Christian right for the last handful of decades. There has always been an illiberal streak in the US. I am not sure they have ever lived up to the spirit of the Constitution.

There is no point finding him in contempt unless there are consequences. A fine is not that.

The dodgy end of Peachtree city's more than a little rough, it's sketchy AF at night territory, only place in the USA I've felt unsafe in many years (had a hemi charger as a rental, so some of the locals took a bit too close of an interest including following it).
Daytime it's pleasant. I like publix.

Agreed, there's no way anyones going to jail a presidential candidate in election year, especially when it appears he's been angling to get locked up so he can bleat about free speech / election interference.If by some miracle the jury unanimously find him guilty I doubt he'd get a custodial sentence.

Judge has also given him time off to go to Barron's graduation.
Edit: Also having a bad day is poor old Marge, the Democrats released a statement backing Johnson as speaker, so her efforts to unseat him are dead. She's not happy.

He is good at getting people to believe anything - even if he knows its a lie. He just does not care and is happy to continually lie to support himself. Hell, today in court there was example after example where Trump lied about the affairs, hush money and more - and its recorded or published. He lied constantly, but he didnt care.
The GOP obviously support this since they constantly attack Clinton for his 'sexual relations' where he lied and was impeached as a result. But Trump can lie constantly and its all fake news or something equally asinine.....

Remember the judge said that New York laws meant he could only fine him a maximum of $1k per violation, and wished he could fine rich people more, the figure of $150k was used. He also said that trumps lawyers weren't controlling him
He made it clear to trump that any more violations would mean his only escalation route would be jail time, for which it's 30 days in jail per violation, and made it very clear he wasn't happy with trumps deliberate violations of the gag order.
He also pointed out that the violations could affect the judgement if he's found guilty. He basicslly read him the riot act
There's the further gag order hearing on Thursday.
Also in the judgement wasa warning to witnesses not to think the gag order gives them free reign to attack trump, probably directed at Cohen, but Cohens already last week made the statement he won't say anymore, having seen how the defence are planning to attack him. Probably a little late there.
Also his posts had to be gone by 14:15, he made it with 30 mins to spare
