Jon Stewart's take on it
That guy is brilliant.
Never seen or heard of him, and after watching just 30 seconds of it, that was enough. Brilliant, really? Maybe just not a style that appeals to me!

Ha ha, I have heard of him, but that was my exact experience of clicking on that link. After the first round of shouting stopped at 20 seconds I was willing to give it a go. When he started screaming again at 30 seconds I gave up.

Good mix of slapstick and on-point humour I thought.

I didn’t get that far! Might give it another go another time. But as someone not that familiar with him, it came across as the Russell brand, Alex jones or Harry hills tv burp style of presenting. Not for me.

The point is fair in isolation. However the capabilities of that missile are fairly well-known.

Tangentially, it is also worth noting reports that the US shot down more of these missiles than the Israelis per https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/04/17/us-nav... and other sources. This is important in a wider defence context, since the interceptors are the only line of defence against Russian or Chinese ballistic missiles (systems like DragonFire aren’t anywhere near capable enough yet). Incidentally, it is a shame the UK doesn’t have any SM-3 capability…

The Iranian attack has rather usefully validated the US’ all-in strategy on SM-3. It has shown Russia and China that it works (at least against these targets). The point won’t be lost on Israel that they’re indeed still vulnerable to these weapons without direct US support.

From the Iranian side, they’ve just carried out a very large live-fire exercise with the enemy disclosing their defensive capabilities. If they have well-placed HUMINT sources and/or decent analysts then they’ll now know how close they came to saturating that capability.

Meanwhile Netanyahu has another live bogeyman with which to support his hard-man persona.

All in all, oddly, everyone wins from this encounter smile
The numbers don't seem to entirely add up, or at minimum they seem to have a rather large discrepancy. Israel are claiming 120+ ballistic missile launches. Per telegraph and related articles, if the US shot down 'at least 7' and that's more missiles than Israel shot down.... erm.. that's still.... quite a lot of missing missiles.

The UK doesn't even have Patriot missiles nevermind Standards I believe so..... given the cost of Standard, it's likely not exactly something that UK was going to pay for, and certainly not in the numbers of missiles generally required for this sort of thing given one doesn't get the same kudos for having ABM defense compared to having ICBMs/SLBMs....

Plus in any case, the UK is always going to be reliant on...er.. well... the US defending their skies given the importance of airbases to them here anyway....

Cheers for trying though beer

The reason it's a good analysis of the situation is that he's using humour to point out the insanity of what is going on, without going too far down a specific narrative.

If the flooding in UAE a sign of gods support for Israel or Iran?
Presumably it's got to be one of them rather than some scifi theories about co2 and green houses.

Yeah, I think it was a "300 of yours didn't do anything, but look what a single one of ours can do" statement.

If one wakes up to find that Israel and Iran have wiped eachother out overnight thanks to a nuclear exchange......

Will that finally bring peace to the Middle East..

Because everyone else is very peaceful in the area? smile

There will still be all the other conflicts going on, mostly sectarian struggles within the various countries. Syria managed to implode without any intervention by either Israel or Iran, though Iran got involved once the fighting was started.

In the spirit of the stabbing thread, have you been on the sauce again?

Israel and Iran aren’t the only barriers to unicorns and rainbows in the ME.

It’s Ali Khamenei’s birthday today party

Worth the mention as he is…. 85.

Won’t be around for much longer, can’t wait for his replacement to make their first statement, whenever the time arises…
