Well Cameron got a telling off for calling Gordon Brown a "phoney"

Are they not allowed to say facts in parliament any more?

I'm glad Cameron got a slap on the wrist ... 'Phoney' just doesn't sum Gordon Brown up - Something a little more explicit is needed!

Edit: 'Cos I can't speel toodae!

More accurate perhaps, but hardly more parliamentary.

"Useless" would have been more apt.

But, yes, I thought 'The House' was beyond even libel laws with the intention that the truth could be told. Sad, but not surprising.

Holy st! We complain that politicians don't tell the truth - turns out it's because they're not allowed to, and get reprimanded for it!!!!

What a country!

It's just Parliamentary etiquette, members are not allowed to insult or accuse another member of lying.

With good reason. There are only 24 hours in a day.

It's not all that bad - as was metioned on the BBC site, it will probably make the news this evening and will be broadcast around the country and maybe the odd dimwit will declare.. 'Gordon Brown a phoney? Really? I must look into this!'

If they hadn't realised already - must be someone left!

That's what happens when you have a labour speaker. The term has been used before without issue.

Indeed. Speakers of the House were traditionally from the oppositon party by means of etiquette.

Guess which PM went against that convention?

He's got big ears.....

I really hope I'm right about this now, having posted that.
