On this page is an official letter from VW from 2002.

http://thanetpcs.co.uk/MkIV/myweb4/oil_change.htm

On it if you look closely you will see the phrase:

retards said:
All Volkswagen vehicle's will be set as default to Extended Servicing...
I had thought the spasticated use of excess apostrophes to be a recent phenomenon.

I was wrong.

To find that kind of schoolboy error in a business letter back then would have been quite unique. Wasn't it during the time VW's quality control was slackening? jester

Isn't "when did the rot set in." a question? Therefore requiring a question mark?

It happens oh-too frequently these days.

But whatever you do, never pick someone on PH up on their misuse, as you will be branded a snob/geek/grammar Nazi.

If you drive to Walton Station from Weybridge you use a roundabout that has the legend WAL'TN painted in the road.

Tickles me every time.

Seems to have become a lot more prevalent in recent years... along with spacktards pronouncing the letter H with an H at the beginning.

Though I believe missing question marks off questions is a relatively recent phenomenon.

I was in WH Smiths at the weekend and noted a magazine called HOBBY'S in the general/hobby section.

I haven't looked into this (there is probably an explanation I guess..) but it just looked so wrong!
