PML.

It is not "done" to argue the point, as GLE do that for us.
Sorry. I must try not to feed the troll.
Be strong and resist!

I do wonder if those who have the biggest bees in their bonnets about FMry are those who have wanted to join but haven't made the steps to do so and therefore regret it (there's still time to ask!).
I thought you had to be asked? I still have no desire to join since I was asked in 2009, (start of this thread) I might change my mind in the future.

No, just doesn't appeal to me, it might in the future, never say never but right now, I have work, cars, playing live and recording music, resto of of a country house, and tatting with ride on mowers to keep my time sealed up, then there's the misses!

Saw my first consecration last night. Very appropriate as it was a Military based Lodge. The DC and ADC don't have Wands but pace sticks, and the perambulation out was impressive.
also off to an Initiation in London in Jan. hopefully might be able to put a bit of info on here afterwards.
I was lucky enough to be a founder member of a new lodge a couple of years ago, so experienced my first consecration. Unusually for my province, North Wales, it is a Daylight lodge. We meet on four Fridays a year, and commence at 11:00am. So far we have 70 members.

We have had a white table event, when we had a visit from the Royal College of Surgeons, and on another occasion we had a talk from a stonemason from Liverpool cathedral. It's a past masters lodge, so no ceremonies, apart from the Installation.

A most enjoyable way to spend a Friday afternoon!
Just out of interest, do you tell folk (who will listen) you are a Freemason when ever possible, and are you proud to do so, or is it something you keep to yourself?
I ask because some on this thread talk about what happens inside, more than others.

I'm still not a Freemason BTW, for those that will listen. wink

The FM that asked me all those years ago said this:

'you have to believe in a god/religion of sort, if you're ever in difficulties (interpret that however you may) your lodge FM's help out'

I have no religious affiliations what so ever, so I declined.
I did/do wonder what the 'help out' means though, , fix your roof? spare some cash? wash your car?

Chaps, just how important is the belief in a higher power? I'm not about to pretend a belief in the supernatural or imaginary friends, but I might be prepared to concede that Chuck Norris is the creator.
That's what put me off when asked to join, I don't believe in a higher power.

If any of you are ever in Bermuda on holiday, and would like to visit the lodge then my uncle is a member.

I was fortunate to be allowed in even though I am not a member, and they have some quite fascinating books and pictures.

Just PM me, I will put you in touch with him, he would more than happily make sure your visit is worth while and enjoyable.

Now I just have to find out how to become a member in the UK, I was inspired whilst out there.
Suddenly it's looking more appealing........... still not a member.
