Yeah... something going round. I almost never get sick (43YO) but had 4 colds this winter. Tested negative for COVID. The third one kncoked me on my arse for 2 days, I actually had to call in sick to work.

Coughing/ cold/ headache/ weakness/ wanting to vomit from the cough.

It fixed itself but came back a little bit a week later, still have it. Just a little cough now and then.

The cough is the absolute worst ever… a racking hacking rib-straining involuntary spasm of a thing, I’m half expecting pieces of lung to be ejected. Filthy!

I started with something 3 weeks ago. Everything ached and I had an awful cough. I put it down to working outside, it was very icy and all my effort went into staying upright, so that's what I thought the aches were. At one point my back and side were hurting from the coughing.
This week I still have the cough, think I pulled something coughing the other day, cos I'm in agony.

Meanwhile husband started with the cough Monday, his temperature kept spiking and he was having trouble breathing, I ended up phoning NHS who promptly sent an ambulance, they think it's developed into a chest infection (he's coughing up some horrible crap). So he's on antibiotics, barely eating and doing lots of sleeping. I can't sleep due to the pain in my ribs. It's like the night of the living dead here!
Don't know if its a good or bad thing that we had both booked leave for this week, as holidays go, we've achieved a grand total of naff all!

Definitely something going around. Struggling to shake off sore throat since Monday now congested hopefully not turning into a sinus infection.

I felt a bit st Sunday night out of nowhere. Just went freezing cold and couldn’t get warm. Thought I’d slept it off and went to gym 6am. Worked a bit and again just couldn’t get warm so called it a day around 3pm.

Been off since. Really weird as I’ve felt cold and then sweaty and warm, but not typical flu as not had a sore throat, runny nose. Started with a cough yesterday.

Genuinely felt wiped out, been in bed and on the couch all week. I’m usually back to work after a day or so and haven’t been off I’ll in ages.

Currently suffering from the mother of all sore throats. Like swallowing razor blades and meant that I got no sleep last night! Coupled with going from shivering to sweating in the same minute. Latest awful lergy is awful!

Exactly the same here. 4th day of it for me, but got way worse last night. Had been managing with ibuprofen and paracetamol before but not now. Spitting unto a bowl to save swallowing or drippling! Grim.

See your GP; mine tutted many times when listening to me exhale

Seems I have regressed to where I was around 4 / 5 weeks ago with this cough!

Same symptoms, can never seem to be able to clear my throat, always tickly - big heaving coughs, sore ribs from the amount of coughing, waking during the night.etc

Its made a gradual comeback after I finished a course of antibiotics two weeks ago.

Call to the GP early next week again methinks - whatever this is, its very, very odd.

That sounds like when I had Covid back in 2022.

Been suffering with some sort of lurgy for nearly a week: initially had 3-4 days of fluctuating between burning up and feeling cold under 3 duvets, coupled with some chest pain and feeling bunged up (and ocassionally in my shoulder) - now moved onto a hacking, slightly barking cough which is not too productive (some green phlegm, but not too much in spite of taking guaifenesin), combined with low-key nausea and a weird throat pain which almost feels like I have something stuck in my throat from time to time, although I'm guessing the cough has probably irritated my throat something chronic.

Its not COVID, at least according to the tests I've done, but I'm tempted to go to the doctor if it's still lingering in a day or two. I just don't feel *quite* right, and I hardly ever get properly ill - the previous colds/COVIDS I've had over the past few days have been more minor and been well on their way to clearing after a few days.

Husband is on week 3 of it, couldn't get a gp appointment, and still not well, he ended up at the out of hours at the hospital last night, apparently he's got acute bronchitis, so another round of anti biotics and an inhaler.
Still needs to get to the gp though for a sick note!

Six of us around a table last night; we laugh after someone cracks a funny, five laughs turn into the same wheezy hacking awful cough (me included). All five of us have been doing this for literally months… WTF, it’s like a John Wyndham novel

And I'm back again, coughing up hard chunks.
It was a good 4 weeks when I felt OK, just weak.

Not sure what the latest awful lurgey is, but I'm pretty sure I have it. Like so many other posts here, I'm a fit and healthy individual, I pay a lot of attention to my diet, ensuring it is nutritious and loaded with antioxidants. I sleep well and I exercise lots. Colds are something that are normally experienced once every couple of years, and generally brushed off without too much pain or effort.

At the beginning of February I started with a mild cough. Not thinking too much of it, I ignored it and carried on as usual. By the time we went on holiday on the 8th it had progressed to some mild pain down the left side of my chest. We go to Tenerife and I love to run every day in the warm weather, so I was determined to continue ignoring it, which ultimately was a stupid thing to do. I woke one night breathless and the mild pain had been replaced with a sharp stabbing pain each time I coughed or breathed in deeply. I saw a doctor the next day who said I had bronchitis, and he prescribed a seven day course of antibiotics, saying I'd feel better within five days. With a week of lying in the sun ahead of me, I was pretty confident I'd shift it, but when I returned home I still wasn't 100%. Then it progressively got worse to the point where I saw a doctor this week and was prescribed another seven days of antibiotics. I've gone from running 40 miles a week, to feeling out of breath just walking the dog.

I guess my lesson is to be sympathetic to the first signs that I may be coming down with something. I rarely rest, but quite often I credit not getting ill to that, feeling like rest is me putting down my guard.

Hubby's bronchitis has finally cleared. But over the weekend my damn cough came back, I've had this now since 19th Jan. I thought it had gone away.

Update from me after three weeks.

Its still with me - turned into what feels like a heavy cold about two weeks ago, never been through so many tissues!

Cough is still there, granted not quite as bad as it was.
Not been able to taste or smell anything for weeks on end.

I am feeling a little more "alive" now though, the fatigue seems to have passed, so hopefully I'm on the up.

My mum also came down with very similar symptoms around three weeks ago and my youngest (19-months) after taking him to the GP twice in a fortnight has now been diagnosed with a chest infection, so he's back on antibiotics.

The comment above about the group of friends turning into coughing fits was the same for me last weekend - its uncanny.

The cynical side of me is now starting to feel that somethings not quite right, or being kept quiet.
If this was covid then I'd understand, but when I had that back in 2021, it was a walk in the park in comparison.

Well I'm just back in the land of the living after having full blown flu.

I was working over in New York for a couple of weeks and obviously brought it back with me, thank heavens it didn't strike when I was out there, don't think I could have dealt with it.

Thought it was Covid at first (never had it), tested and all negative. Thing is had the Flu jab etc prior to Christmas but there was obviously no point to that! Anyways spent 5 days in bed, I'm 57 and don't think I've been that ill for 40 odd years, really not very nice. Reckon it may take a month to get over it totally. I'm up and about now and normally ride a motorcycle, not for a while the way I feel
