I use monthly disposable lenses. I ran out of solution. I forgot to go to the opticians and get more.

Now I have the option of either throwing away some brand new lenses or improvising some sort of overnight solution. Any ideas?

Salty solution...umm...how much do you require? 10cc? Think I've got an answer.

You'll look like you've got cataracts tomorrow though.

ETA god that was predictable

Hmph. Ok, just back from the supermarket (way too much effort) - didn't realise they sold that there so cheers for that PH thumbup

Seriously though, what will they think of to sell next? Stuff, actual stuff in a supermarket. Cool...

Need more than Saline to clean contacts.

The proprietary stuff isn’t just sterile saline, its distilled water to take out other mineral impurities.

Then the level of salt content has to match that normally found in tears.

Get the saturation level wrong and it will draw moisture out of the eye tissue. This isn’t good for your eyes and will sting.

Certainly you can make it correctly, given the right equipment and measuring apparatus. The chances of you having that around the average house are nil.

Even if you have the equipment to do a little home chemistry, it’s not worth your time and effort compared to buying it.

Knock on a few neighbours doors, or phone a friend, you will be able to borrow some.

I have been wearing contacts for over 20 years so here is my 2 pen'th worth. Use some boiled water, let it cool obviously, put a TINY amount of salt in it i.e one salt crystal. Then tomorrow go to the chemist and get some proper stuff!

I've got both but prefer the monthlys for working longer days etc. - I can keep them in much longer.

All sorted now though - Sainsbury's coughed up the goods and I won't be going blind (for lens related reasons) this evening...

My nice 2 year old boy has a (bad) habit of tipping out the solution & playing with the container under the tap, water in the lenses isn't a nice feeling !
