Two qwells - two nightol and a couple of pints sort me out when flying back from the west coast.
Nytol I've tried once or twice and just get a headache the next day.

As someone has said, basically stay up a long time before the flight so you are so knackered by the time you board you'll be asleep.

unless its a business trip, the staying up late [or not going to sleep at all] is the most fun option smile have rolled into the hotel at 9am to collect cases, keeping the taxi waiting, on more than a few occasions.

I find popping two 5-HTP tablets and a couple of cheeky G&Ts will see me through the run back from Chicago to London fairly well... But another +1 for Zopiclone (if you can get hold of it).

My wife is a very poor sleeper and sometimes uses zopiclone. I normally take 1/2 a pill when flying from here back to the UK (As I need to get to sleep fast, being only a 6 and a bit hour flight over night and having to drive the next day) and they work really well - My god, they don't half taste gopping though.

I like this idea, i'll get some beers in and start the festivities early! Although the thought of eating airline food with a hangover isn't a nice one, perhaps i should grab some snacks before i board!

Zopiclone risk it....
Is this off the shelf stuff or prescription?
prescription as i had really bad insomnia and could go without proper sleep for a week and would just be a wreck, I can eat nytol till the cows come home and it doesnt work, but zopilcone is great.

I explained the above to my doc and they have no issues doing it as long as i didnt use it every day.
If your doctor is reluctant to give them to you order some from pharmastores. They'll arrive within three days and they will knock you the fk outyes

Doctor should give you them if you explain why you want them. He will only be reluctant if you keep going back for more and twitch a lot.

Well Nytol (the two a night ones) work for me. They're only mildly sedative so I use them in combination with a meal & a couple of drinks and then good for 2-3hrs sleep on the plane. This is usually sufficient to stay awake long enough to sleep at a normal time in the new time zone. I've never suffered any side effects from them.

Sleeping on planes is the only answer to jet lag in my experience. I make it a priority to get some kip and haven't been jet lagged since.

I believe Zopiclone is what they term a "mesmeric" drug...in fact I've actually been mesmerized/hypnotised and Zopiclone sends you 'off' far more deeply than the hypnotist.

Just go to the doctor and say you're afraid of flying. Two medicinal grade sleeping tablets on their way to you.

1 bottle wine, 1 tablet = no jet lag.

Is it a good idea to be zonked out on a plane for hours? Boots and Tesco both do an over-the-counter sleep aid based on antihistimines - they actually work very well but can leave you feeling a bit hungover so don't drive for about 10hrs after taking them if you haven't used them before.

I've always found the doctor-prescribed sleeping tablets much easier to come out of than the Boots 'natural' remedies, which, as you say, leave me very groggy for hours. It's a deep sleep, not necessarily being zonked out.

FWIW - redbull the night before to stay awake then sleep on the plane seems to have worked, i don't feel jet lagged at all!

Managed to get extra legroom on the plane so that aided in sleep, i got about 6 hours without the need for pills.

I recently flew to NZ, and hate flying. Can never get comfy etc, etc.

I took 3 (or 4) Diazipam (sorry about the spelling, but I have no idea) and they were fantastic. Slept for 10 each way with no drowsyness afterwards.

Excellent things!
