At the moment, ginger beer oddly.

Either that or Ribena.

Which isnt painting a great picture of me as an adult but I drink if I'm thirsty and drink booze to get smashed.

It also doesnt help that I dont like the taste of lager or bitter, quite like a stout every now and again though, cant abide white wine and am fussy with red wine.

But you're not 'craving it'...I.e. you don't want to get smashed every night - just once a month.

I'm not craving it regularly, I do crave occassionally the feel of being pissed.

Thats interesting. Becasue i also discussed this at lunch and i recon that most people who say that, say it because they have seen it on tv or in the movies. So people think thats what they should do after a crap day.

I do not think having a drink helps me relax more than the sitting on my arse on the sofa.

Anyone agree?

LP
Its also the wrong thing to do for stress. Alcohol is a depressant they would be far better off smoking opium.

Apart from the throwing up and the constipation.

I used to drink about 8 cans every night, I still went to work but got fed up of feeling like rubbish everyday and being out of pocket.

I cut down considerably and haven't had any alcohol for about 3 weeks and I'm feeling much better for it.

I didn't consider myself to have a problem, never craved beer or drank at 9am, it was just a habit I got into.

But rest assured when I go away in November I will be paro for a whole week.

In the evening I drink liquids do quench my thirst, and I make sure its a drink I like the taste of so I can enjoy it over time.
I drink alcoholic beverages because I like the taste, and its easy to get bored of sweet drinks like juices/cokes etc.

Well. I've "given up" beer for 2009. This means I don't buy cans or bottles for home. I can have a pint out in the pub...

So my beer consumption has dropped about 90% for ten weeks so far.

At the same time The wife and I now have three alcohol free nights a week.

I sleep better and feel better for it. Don't crave the booze on the nights we don't have it, particularly. But I enjoy it when Friday comes around and I can have a bottle of wine with dinner.

The half bottle of wine with dinner I would find very, very hard to give up completely.

I understand what the OP means.

My own drinking pattern is just too regular I think. 10 years ago I drank maybe 3or4 cans a week and a bottle of whiskey from Christmas would discolour before I drank it.

More recently I find that I enjoy the taste and the relaxation of 'having a drink' On Thursdays I stop for a pint on the way home - Just the one because I do drive home afterwards. Then on Friday Saturday and Sunday I'll take a G&T or a Scotch followed by no more than 3 cans each evening.

I found that during the winter I would often have a Scotch most nights upon arriving home (medicinal) and maybe add a Port or two with the main weekend meal.

I decided all that was a bit much so Monday to Thursday I've cut out alchohol and actually feel better for it. I never crave drunkenness or oversize measures of spirits and I know that bad drinking habits are in the news lately - But how does my consumption compare with others?

I do enjoy a drink - just want to be sure that I can keep on enjoying it for a few more years yet!

Eh?

I only drink to get smashed, properly smashed, no half measures.

I dont do social drinking, dont see the point of it at all.

Consequently I only drink probably once a month, maybe less.

By your definition I have a drinking problem. How so?

I'd say getting fked because you want to occassionally is a far more healthy pastime than drinking 2 or 3 glasses of wine a night and hiding it under some sort of middle class acceptiblity 'because I've had a stressful day'

While yours is far from an unusual case I would say that it shows signs of why this country has a drinking problem.

The words you use to say you are drinking are also words of violence

Its part of the cluture of the UK to go out and get completely pissed on cheap horrible alchol and have a fight

Its a bit sad really

While in the eyes of many I am the one with a drink problem as i enjoy a glass of wine or beer in the evening instead of some horrible fizzy crap like coke or lemonade

Thanks for lumping me in with the yoof but the reality is as far from the truth as you could be.

Violence doesnt come into it as I dont go out to get smashed, its usually either here with mates or around one of their houses.

I drink to fall over and laugh and be silly, not get into fights and yell 'Sharon, I facking luv youse' across chip shops.

If it is wrong then there are about ten million 'wrong' people in the country.

A bit of an odd question if you ask me. How do pubs of off licenses stay in business during the week, or do they all rely on 'wrong' people to frequent them?

I never go out with intention of getting into a brawl and rarely do. But the last time we went out some trouble kicked off. If I wasn't so drunk I may have been able to defend myself rather than getting my arse kicked.

Please don't be such a twunt.

That is probably the single most tenuous analysis of phraseology I have ever heard. I know countless people who drink this way (mostly respected professionals), and I can't actually recall the last time any one of them displayed signs of aggression when drunk.

Rubbish analysis. Rubbish conclusion.

Pint of Coke = ~200
Pint of Light Lager = ~250
Pint of Heavy Beer ie Guiness can be up to 350 or 400.

Pure orange juice is more than you'd think at about ~150 a pint.

Red wine for comparison is less than that, around ~120.

Apart from Cinzano and lemonade, I don't actually know any alcoholic drinks that taste nice and I'd rather have over a soft drinks. Red wine only goes with a meal for me.

It's not the beer that's addictive, it's the fun you have on the beer that's addictive.
