You've just motivated me to stop pacing the house and garden being bored recovering from the old eye surgery and take a trip to the local to sup a Brakspears in the beer garden smile

Pint of Coke = ~200
Pint of Light Lager = ~250
Pint of Heavy Beer ie Guiness can be up to 350 or 400.

Pure orange juice is more than you'd think at about ~150 a pint.

Red wine for comparison is less than that, around ~120.
Damn.

What about the crap concentrated Orange juice from Lidl?

The other alternative i like to beer is about 0,39€ a liter from Lidl and its a apple juice. Well at that price it probably isnt much juice but i presumed it was better than beer.

Happy days

I used to only drink to get legless a la Plotloss, but in the last year or so (I'm now 29) I've been enjoying evening drinks, 1 or 2 bottles of beer or creating a new cocktail.
I was worried this is the first step to alchoholism, but it seems not (or at least is very common) so I'm happy smile

I'd guess the more concentrated the more calories. Seen as less concentrated = more water, therefore less calories.

But I'm no expert!

Blimey o trousers Plotloss - I was making a general comment about problem drinkers - I never intended to bring fighting into it!

How else would you class someone as having a drinking problem than if they no longer taste the beer they have - they don't care what wine they drink or enjoy a spirit? I'm not saying that you or anyone else who drinks "to get smashed" has a problem, but for many alcoholics and substance abusers its the final result that gets them addicted, not the taste of an alcoholic drink. Do you honestly see someone getting addicted to drinking Vodka because it tastes nice? This country has a rabid fascination with living for the weekend - hammering booze once in a while until you can't tell your ahole from your elbow. I'm no different - I like a few beers on a weekend, but I can draw a distinction between 'once in a while' and 'too frequently' as most others can do.

Fair comment, I dont know where the intimation about violence came from either and I'll smash his face in if he says it again. wink

My point is more that alcoholism is a many and varied thing, one cant just say 'you display characteristic X therefore you are an alcoholic' its more subtle, complex and layered than that.

Eh?

I only drink to get smashed, properly smashed, no half measures.

I dont do social drinking, dont see the point of it at all.

Consequently I only drink probably once a month, maybe less.

By your definition I have a drinking problem. How so?

I'd say getting fked because you want to occassionally is a far more healthy pastime than drinking 2 or 3 glasses of wine a night and hiding it under some sort of middle class acceptiblity 'because I've had a stressful day'
Plotloss said:
At the moment, ginger beer oddly.

Either that or Ribena.

Which isnt painting a great picture of me as an adult but I drink if I'm thirsty and drink booze to get smashed.

It also doesnt help that I dont like the taste of lager or bitter, quite like a stout every now and again though, cant abide white wine and am fussy with red wine.
While yours is far from an unusual case I would say that it shows signs of why this country has a drinking problem.

The words you use to say you are drinking are also words of violence

Its part of the cluture of the UK to go out and get completely pissed on cheap horrible alchol and have a fight

Its a bit sad really

While in the eyes of many I am the one with a drink problem as i enjoy a glass of wine or beer in the evening instead of some horrible fizzy crap like coke or lemonade
I say I'm going out to get wkered, which is a word for masturbastion.

However I usually just come home pissed.

I dont drink at home, and very little if at all during the week.

Mind you, friday i went for a pint, got in at 2 45am.

Up at 8, went to gloucester to watch the rugby, in the pub for 12, stayed with mates, got to bed at midnight, having had most of a bottle of morgan spiced coke.

Home in the morning, shooting, back to the pub for 11 30, other half was at twickenham so i stayed in the pub until 9 that night.

Felt st on monday, but wont drink again for at least a week, and cant see what the sorry is.

Im sure they may be a health implication, but didnt fight/smash anything up etc.

I cant see what all the fuss is about with having a social every now and again

Having spent from 19.00 on Saturday to 14.00 on Sunday, getting as much alcohol into this body as humanely possible with only two arms and one mouth, I may not be in a position to preach here. Still the glass of Cristal and the sausage sandwich @ 10.00 am on Sunday was really nice lick

Special event though, my wife and her friend share birthdays and are both 40 this year.

Recovery rate is much slower than it used to be though. I enjoy a drink two or three nights a week, but rarely drink at home (unless out in the evening earlier) and tend not to drink any alcohol between Sunday and Thursday, and get through a lot of water on those days.

What the hell, I'm off for a beer.....

Can i ask another question.

For all the people who said they prefer the taste (like me) would you drink alcohol free beer if it was the same price or cheaper than normal beer?

The Cobra stuff is OK. Have had that in stock at home a few times, however, I do prefer full fat beers, as you can tell the difference in my opinion.

Oh and I like getting pissed.

Sometimes, if I found it palatable. I have no problem with drinking the real thing most of the time - but being able to have a few pleasant tasting beers, and still drive, would be handy from time to time.

Not in a million years, no.

Beer without alcohol is the same or worse as all that vegetarian bacon/sausages and the like.

Its not natural, and i wouldnt want it

Not too sure how 'natural' most beer is, but I do want it!
