Don't want to waste the doctor's time just yet, buuuut...

Just over a week ago I finished a week-long course of antibiotics for a gum/wisdom tooth problem - nothing major. Since coming off them, I notice my tongue has got that horrid white'ish furry covering to it, which although not too harrowing, doesn't look that great and leaves a bit of a metallic taste in the mouth.

Is this something that crops up as a result of antibiotics?

(And yes, I've already checked Google, but it says I have bad AIDS)

Could be oral thrush. Antibiotics kill off good bacteria.

NB: I have no medical qualifications. Any advice listened to may result in death.

I'll say it before someone else does.

Sounds like a sudden onset of 'Bad Aids'. Whatever your symptoms are, they are exactly the same as 'Bad Aids'. I'm afraid it's terminal. Also be aware that approximately a week before death you will continue to void your bowels non-stop.

Give your mouth and tongue a good brush all over, run your t/brush under hot water to make it softer, try corsodyl for a few days - at least 30 mins seperate to toothpaste.
See your GP again if you're worried!

Certainly sounds like oral thrush to me (but I'm not a doctor, so the usual disclaimers apply!). You could try Daktarin gel from the chemist's, that's quite effective.

Thanks for all the replies. A trip to Boots looks in order; I was hoping scalding tea and a Mach 3 was going to be the cure, but I guess not.

Looks like you have oral thrush - a common side effect of antibiotics. Ask your GP for some nystatin. You will need to use 1ml (100000 units) four times a day for 7 days. This should cure it.
