Right, just had my third attempt at the 2000metres, managed an 8:09- pretty damn pleased with that. 1st go (2 weeks ago) - 9:02 2nd go (last week) - 8:25 3rd go (tonight) - 8:09 Progress is being made! I consider myself to be a pretty fit 27yr old but hell I could hardly get up off the machine afterwards!!

Fifty mins at 1:58.4 pace..24spm. Steady at sub 2 then every 2:30 ten hard pulls at 1:48. This is an easier session than the 4 min tabata!

Suffering a bit from the sniffles today, so my 4 mins on the rower was a little lacklustre. I think that I have my technique down pretty well after 6 months of varying rows but are there any decent resources for perfecting the stroke? I am going to continue doing Tabata for the rest of July and go for a decent sub 7 before my holidays. .
McGee - outstanding with the 1170+! Best I have got to so far was a 1100 dead.

Last effort saw me pulling a bit harder during the recovery 10 second intervals....so I think only to record the 20 second sprints should count. Thus us what I'll calibrate into machine next time.

Not to lower the tone, but I have just completed my first 5000m in a while. Managed to get down to 20:21 with a final split of 1:50.
However since getting home I have been stuck on the toilet with diarrhoea. I've had a little extra caffiene today, but wondered if I overdid the rowing and it's caused this reaction ?

Fourmotion said: I appreciate the benefit of the doubt you've given me there louiebaby, but I'm no lightweight! 89kgs, and 23% body fat. I'm a short fat fooker! Most rowing clubs would still welcome you with open arms. A lot of the smaller clubs are funded by bar sales, and exist on willing volunteers to help out. I know when I was taking it quite seriously, I took more from the club than I gave. (I used the gym a lot, and the boats a lot. I had no money, and rarely drunk from the bar, yet only paid a student membership.) I realised that the social rowers who had a couple of pints afterwards were in effect subsidising my sport. I would be quite happy to have a chat with them, and often did more than my fare share of bar duty to even the Karma up a bit. I sometimes wondered if I had my priorities right, because the social rowers always seemed to be happier. Now, in my retirement, I can definitely see the attraction. Whilst I understand people have very different uses for a rowing machine, I encourage anyone who might want to, to get out in a boat. For me, the only reason I could spend so many hours on a rowing machine was the difference it made to what happened in a boat. I do understand not everyone feels the same though.

Clonmult..I havent included last 2 nights metres...better keep up. Git. Tomorrow morning at the gym was going to be a 10k run .... going to have to do an hour on the rower instead. Although I should be sensible and alternate my sessions, this morning was a back/bicep weights session followed by a 5k row (not fast, 20:36, but felt good and consistent on pace).

Not sure if thats good or bad .... ? Just checked the Concept 2 site. So for the purposes of competition, I should be dropping it down - no way am I in the "Heavyweight men performance athletes" category! Although I'm definitely heavyweight ....

try different levels and see what feels best. generally higher for faster pacing and lower for lower strokes. if you're a big strong chat then higher might feel better.

my DF is 125 ...not my SPM!...or I'm prob much weaker than you!
I've added a new challenge to the list..its 30 minutes at maximum 20 strokes per minute. a tougher one than you may think cos you've gotta pull each stroke really hard. I'll prob do it with DF of 120.

Yeah I know. I cannot have the DF at so low because I cannot move fast enough to cover the distance. I need a much higher DF. We're almost the same weight so you must be much quicker. I am generally slow in most things though.

a slow SPM should allow a low DF. so most of my paces are in region of 22-25 strokes per minute.

Big maybe, not necessarily strong (I know, everyone on here is supposed to be powerfully built). I'll try different settings, see how it feels
