Why? Pearce has chosen that great British icon of Ryan Giggs as someone deserving of representing the country. He's a great role model isnt he...? A great player yes, a great role model for the youth of Britain? No. I'd rather have David Beckham in my team than him. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18624174

Because Beckham is no longer good enough. Would anybody here have picked him on merit?

What's this 'role model' business?

The question here is why either the neckless thug or Micah 'thrown my toys out of the pram because I wasn't first choice' Richards have made the squad ahead of Beckham.
Beckham may not be the player he was a decade ago, but he can still deliver crosses, corners and free kicks like no-one else.
If we're 1-0 down with 30 mins to go, who is most likely to create or grab a winner? - Beckham, Richards or Bellamy?

He's a better player and leader than that shower of sh*te we've had to endure for the last three big football competitions. I beleive that without Beckhams tireless work we would not have won the olympic vote in the first place. Anyone that didnt think he deserved this as a swansong to his career is a miserable ***t.

He took the decision to play at a lower level because of the financial rewards on offer which is totally understandable. It does however mean that he's not going to be as sharp as he could be. He's even admitted he didn't play very well when Pearce went to watch him play.

I doubt we would have got the Olympics without Seb Coe. I also doubt that he will be picked for the 1500 metres.

Apparently Pearce wanted cover in a different area (one more player) and couldn't find the room for Beckham.
Was it too much to find room for him? Pearce didn't want the relentless media circus that would follow the squad - but they'll get that anyway.
I'm sure that played some part ... and they can't sell the tickets so I hear - would have put a few on the gate I'm sure.

You don't pick a player to increase ticket sales. Period.
I'd hope if the stadiums for the football aren't sold out they'll be giving tickets to schools etc

Anyone that didnt think he deserved this as a swansong to his career is a miserable ***t. Completely agree with you. I think it's disgusting that he's not been included in the side, a model professional and role model that has put in a tremendous effort in helping us get the Olympics in the first place, he should be captain and nothing less, instead Pearce chooses a w ker like Bellamy, I mean WTF!!!!!

I think Beckham should have been included in the squad but is anyone actually bothered about how we do at the Olympics anyway?

I want to see the team do a job for us, Beckham isnt good enough anymore, simple as that. Bellamy can change a game with his pace, Richards is a highly capable defender and Giggs is, well, Giggs. I am a miserable , so what?

Yep, you are a pair of s I just think based on what Beckham has done, representing the country and the effort he put in deserves a bit more than a kick in the nackers!
