Chaps, I need to fix some front suspension bork on my Pooma and thought I could do it over the weekend. The trouble is I don't know what the unhealthy bits are called so do I do some internet sleuthing and buy what I think I need, take it apart and take the borked bits to a parts man and ask for 'one of these' and 'a pair of them' or admit defeat and just pay a man?

Can't be that many parts to the front suspension of a Puma, surely? Rubber bits or metal bits?

I think I am perhaps 2 years away from some bodywork, as there are a few odd areas where there are corrosion bubbles coming through. My car had the 1750cc engine and gearbox rebuilt before being fitted into the 1300cc junior shell in 2006, and its had little work needed since then. It sits in the garage for 2 months, starts first time and is then used for a week or two, including a daily 40 mile commute on the M1. It'll do 70mph at 4000rpm all day, and is great on an A or B road. Its quite physical compared to a modern, but everything is deliberate and involving so you feel like you are really driving it. I think they are quite an addicting ownership proposition. If you 'get' them, then they are pretty desirable and enjoyable to own - something different. I think in general there are always little jobs to be done. I'm for ever buying stuff for it from Alfaholics and Classic Alfa, probably £40 per month. I enjoy doing little jobs on it and improving it/returning it to top form. I'd always go for a solid body over mechanicals, as prices on mech. parts isn't too bad. These costs are offset by non-depreciation, no road tax and £150 insurance. Parts can be found here: http://www.alfaholics.com/browse-parts-by-car/coup...Here for the ultimate refined example fix: http://www.alfaholics.com/our-cars/completed-build...Track footage of a 200bhp gt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ihi9bqIrSVA It's a sublime thing. It also looks like it's fairly bork proof, even if the lump lets go it looks fairly easily repairable, meaning that you won't sit there worrying. Wondering if I can get a garage big enough for the 7 so that can sit outside on cold days and swap to the Alfa at the weekend. Could just stop dreaming though

Bear in mind it was designed to run in hot Italian cites and along the coast roads. Its body and electrics with these. I've had mine converted to electric ignition which helps regularity of spark and does away with the dizzy etc. I'd ideally like some head work which will allow me to rev it further - currently breathless above 4k, redline at 7.5k. My end game is something like the cars gracing the Alfaholics completed cars.

Love the 205T16, but would prefer it in the original grey to be honest. Not too keen on the works livery.

As is probably the norm at Goodwood on a weekend, some lovely stuff drops in to the paddock during the course of the day when I have been there in the past - last year I recall a Veyron, a DB4, an Elan FHC; another year a Ferrari 250 and other bits and pieces. I went to the JDC one last year and it was a lovely day out, lunch at The Kennels avec mon frere. Most pleasent.

Crook said: That car really does look good. It makes me wonder whether that or, for example, a 348 would be the more enjoyable car to own. Or indeed an E30 M3 at twice the price. The problem with doubling the price is that it would scare me if I broke it too much. £10k while not disposable feels a LOT cheaper than £20k. I know that doesnt make any sense but its my feeling on it.
