General level of waftiness and soaking up the bumps - a Citroen BX (but it had a terrible 1600cc engine) and a Renault 25 (but rather slow with its 2-litre 120hp engine).
The most comfy seats were the sports seats in a 2003 Audi A4 1.8T Sport. Even my wife liked them and she usually hates hard seats. She particularly approved of the electric lumber support (up/down and in/out) and the seat squab with adjustable length. A mid-1980s Cavalier SRi that I drove as a company car had rather nice genuine Recaro seats before later models where fitted with Vauxhall's copies. These seats were rather narrow and hated by my rather broad in the beam mother-in-law as she sat on the side bolsters rather than in the seat!

KardioKate said: As per the title; what's the most comfortable car you've ever had / driven?
My parents have just got a Xsara Picasso and I'm rather shocked at just how comfortable it is. It isn't just the seats, but the fact that the armrest lines up perfectly with the gear knob, the roomyness betweeen the front seats, everything is easily within reach etc...
I'm sure most of you will have had cars that make the Picasso look primitive, in the comfort stakes, though! You must be mistaken. Citroen Picassos don't exist any more. I deleted them from the matrix to make the world a better place.

Our Ford Galaxy does a very good job of comfy, decent view, supple suspension, quiet and no pretensions of sportiness, the tyres are huge balloon like things.
I think comfort and luxury gets mixed in with sporting aspirations, I get the impression that people enjoy something because it looks cool, has a good image and makes them feel good so obviously real luxury to the British public is Audi A5 diesel on 19 inch wheels with 30 section tyres an S line suspension, it cost 40 grand so must be the comfiest, most luxurious and fastest car ever.

Rob81 said: My XM was very comfortable - it made the non-hydractive Xantias I had feel quite harsh. My CX rode better than the XM but the wind and engine noise made it slightly less comfortable over all. Same as I had a lovely old Citroen xantia 1.9 diesel which was very slow but was so comfy also I had a few good nights kip in that car. The French might not do build quality but they do the best car seats lol

As an overview of this thread it seems the most comfortable car would be a Jaguar fitted with Volvo seats.

My E38 735i is hands-down the most comfortable of all the cars I own/have owned.
Everything's just so effortless, and cabin noise is virtually non-existent.
I had to double check my engine hadn't cut out earlier, after I'd started it up in a car park and then waited for a few minutes while others left. Couldn't hear a damn thing.

After reading this thread I find it fascinating that recurring posts offer Citroen BX's, Xantia's, Volvo 850/940/S60, Ford Galaxy as the most comfortable cars ever had.
Having driven all these cars over many miles in my past I can't disagree that they are comfortable but in most cases are disappointing when 'pressing on'.
Of all the cars I've owned my vote would go to my current Alfa 156 V6. I just don't tire of it. It is not the ultimate in terms of cruising or performance comfort but as an all-rounder it's hard to beat. Just my view of course.....

funnily enough, I cleaned my in-laws Picasso out the other day...slightly off topic, but man, lack of build quality or what. I've seen thicker carpet on a 10 year old ikea doormat. They find it comfy as well though, so it takes all sorts
On the original post... I'll name two cars, Chimaera - brilliant driving position, just so snug and stretched out, plus adjustable pedals. At the other end of the scale, my now sold RR vogue, - I think they are the comfort seats from an E38 7 series, - just fantastic, combined with the height and autobox wafting. Did many a run to Scotland from the midlands and it just soaked it up... I shall have to own one again at some stage.
