Was having a nosy on Eurocarparts website, looking for discs for my car. Out of interest, clicked on shock absorbers to see what they cost, and found this blurb underneath:
"The shock absorber is a vital part of the vehicle suspension, its prime function is to keep your wheels in contact with the ground at all times by absorbing the energy from the coil spring. As the shock absorber and coil spring work together if your shock absorbers need replacing your coil springs probably will also. The result of a worn shock absorber is increase braking distance, poor vehicle handling and ride and uneven tyre wear in extreme cases."
First time I've heard of replacing springs when you replace shock absorbers? Unless the spring was broken, or looked severely corroded, I wouldn't replace them.
A sneaky attempt by ECP to sell more parts? Or is there some other reason?

I'd say "poor handling" was more extreme than "uneven tyre wear". I remember nearly going off the road a few times at low speed due to the car's shocks being totally knackered (120k on a Clio's factory shocks).
As for replacing springs at the same time as dampers, I call BS.
